Vipre Antivirus and Antispyware requires Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista; it is not compatible with Windows 95, 98, or ME, Macintosh, or Linux. The 15-day free trial is fully functional; a review of the paid product can be found on CNET Reviews.
Installation takes a few minutes and does not require a reboot. After installation, a wizard asks a few predictable questions. Overall, the Vipre interface is one of the cleanest we've seen on any antivirus product. It's intuitive and easy to use. Four tabs across the top take you to Scan, Manage, Tools, and the overview page. Much of what we like about Vipre is beneath the hood--which is where it should be. Vipre scored well in both our CNET Labs' Windows XP performance tests, however, there are no public, third-party tests that we can point to at this time.
What we like most about Vipre, though, is that it packs a lot of extras--extras that other antivirus products should have but often do not, such as a secure file eraser that writes 1s and 0s over deleted files, a history cleaner that goes beyond just what's in your Internet-browser cache, and something called PC Explorer, which reveals processes and services running that are suspect or known to be malicious.
Many of these tools are also featured within Sunbelt Software's standalone-antispyware product, CounterSpy v2. Missing from Vipre is firewall protection. Sunbelt Software does not provide an uninstall function; you will need to use the Windows Control Panel's Add and Remove Software feature.

Version: Vipre Antivirus + Antispyware 3.1
"Good realtime protection, HIPS/behavior protection"
Pros: Vipre, just like it's sister product Counterspy, provides good realtime and on-demand protection from today's malware. Updates daily and provides nice side features such as a system explorer and temporary/internet history deletion.
It's HIPS (Host Intrusion Protection System) provides the ability to minor unknown programs and their activities on the system. It maintains a whitelist of good application and watches unknown application if they are trying to change any number of system variables (startup items, internet settings, policies...)
Definition database is comprehensive and is very comparable to other antivirus programs.
Very promising first effort.
Cons: Like all new software it has bugs.
While it aims to be light on a system, and in general it is, it does cause slow downs when checking an executable file on-access and on-execution. Hopefully something they will fix soon.
Various other unusual problems can plague the interface and operation of the program. again something that hopefully will be resolved in the future.
Hit and miss on the stability on some configurations of computers. Try only if you have a backup in place.

Version: Vipre Antivirus + Antispyware 3.1
Pros: It doesn't slow my comp down at all, and worked extremely well in keeping sh*t out. I have been trying to trick it by going to every bad site I know (what are lots) and it just works magic. I used to be happy with AVG8 but this is much better. 10 out of 10.
Cons: I don't like the V in the system tray Icon, the snake would be better, also maybe a different color.
