"It is FREE."

June 24, 2010  |  By gougaaa

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

This is an excellent product. Here is what the licence says. The basic version of VideoPad has all the features of VideoPad Pro but after 14 days trial the range of export formats will be limited to .avi, .wmv, .asf and DVD. Im still using my version

Cons

Limited tweens between video frames.

"The secret to the FREE version"

June 24, 2010  |  By janoch

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Very intuitive, simple to use for editing family home videos, more than I expected for free software, good quality movies.

Cons

Not upfront about how to get the FREE version!!!!; only a couple of options for transition effects between sceens

Summary

OPTION TO KEEP FREE VERSION FOUND IN UNINSTALL MENU!!!!!!!

I tried this program and really liked it. I got a warning that it was going to expire and an offer to "upgrade" for around $80 dollars. I didn't upgrade and found the software unusable after the trial period. I gave up and found that Microsoft Movie Maker had everything I was using, plus a ton more options for transition effects, which I liked. Then, I went to uninstall VideoPad and found the option to keep the free version. Now, it works just as well as before. I think the only difference is that there are less options for file formats to save movies in. In the end, I will probably use Movie Maker more because I feel like these guys jerked me around and don't want to be reminded of it every time I edit video!!

"Accepts Quicktime clips from my Kodak Zi8HD Cam. Yeah!"

June 18, 2010  |  By scl2007

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Easy to understand and use. Screen layout looks good. My new Kodak Zi8 Video Cam makes clips in Quicktime format. VideoPad Accepts Quicktime Format Clips unlike Windows Movie Maker. From download to editing to rendering to output AVI file took 1hr.

Cons

VideoPad, as with many Video Editors, has only rudimentary Titles and Credits effects. For me, good old WMM has the best titles and title effects.

Summary

Comparable to WMM but accepts Quicktime. If your camcorder generates quicktime clips, then you need VideoPad. Easy to learn, quick out of the box to production. Looking for pluggins to do fancier edits. I'm a happy first time user.

"VideoPad does everything I need"

June 06, 2010  |  By MyerK

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Easy to learn
Works smoothly

Cons

Sparse transitions but some.
Confusion whether this is free (and Pro paid upgrade) or free to try.
Difficult to contact for clarification.
After 14 days received notification that Pro features disabled. Still seems to do everything I need..

Summary

What appears to be the free version does exactly what I need.
Very easy to use.
If I had to pay for the product I would then have to evaluate against the competition.

"Great Simple Program, saved my bacon"

June 01, 2010  |  By AllanLindh

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Cheap at twice the price, you get to try free for 30 days with no restrictions, after 30 days of use I was happy to pay a few bucks to continue using. Highly recommeded. Clean, simple, intuitive, and produces usable output.

Cons

Haven't found anything yet. Would be nice if there was a bit more doc on setting the export options, took some trial and error.

Summary

I needed to edit video and sound on a PC in WinXP, needed to output in Apples Quick Time format (.mov), which MS's Movie Maker won't do. This program is better and simpler than Movie Maker, and once you figure out how to set the export options, produces good QT movies. Great program, simple clean intuitive. And most of the detail features are intuitive enough that eventually you just start guessing what it will probably do, and it does. Saved me from buying a Mac and a pile of expensive Apple software. Tried a lot of shareware before I got to this one, and it is heads and shoulders above anything else.

"This one just isn't for me"

May 30, 2010  |  By acropora

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

This editing software actually works, unlike many of those around

Cons

The output file is enormous and not very useful because of its size

Summary

Well, this is a nice software package for video editing and it will work. However, despite purporting to allow for specifying output file-size, the output file is silly enormous. The smallest I was able to get it to was 73MB. This isn't useful for an email attachment so I gave up on the software since resizing software that I have wasn't able to convert such large files into something viewable.

"Product is ok"

May 25, 2010  |  By flynby_2

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Program itself seems fare.

Cons

Only used for 1 day. Tried presales email help. Informed must buy program first. Any other support extra.

Summary

Not happy with 14 day trial if this is best that can do. A manual is included but not much help

"Worked Great in a Pinch"

May 17, 2010  |  By stealingfeathers

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

I needed to edit something simple at work this morning and didn't have editing software on the PC. VideoPad was easy to use and did exactly what I needed.

Cons

They shouldn't advertise it as freeware if it is not. I'm not sure if I'll buy it. I'd have to test it out more.

Summary

I needed to remove the original soundtrack and replace it with music. This worked fine and there was no learning curve for me (but I have used other video editing software). The quality of the output file is great. No complaints. I have only tried the one file format. I suspect that this program would be great for a beginner or someone who needs to do occasional editing.

"NOT Freeware"

May 03, 2010  |  By SciFiDude79

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

Probably does exactly what it says it does.

Cons

I don't know, I didn't try it.

Summary

I didn't actually download this software because it's not free. Like the person who wrote the review before me said, this is NOT freeware. I clicked on the website of the people who make the program and it says right on their website that this is a 14-day TRIAL. If you want to keep using it after 14 days, you have to register it. It's currently on sale but the regular price is $80. Normally, I wouldn't write a review on software I didn't even try but someone needed to set the record straight on this product. This is not a negative review about the product itself but rather a note to the powers-that-be that this program's information needs to be changed to FREE TO TRY.

 |  Version: VideoPad Video Editor Basic 2.06

Pros

It's the best video editing software I've ever seen.It not only supports every video and audio format I use but also provides me with plenty of functions.

Cons

Well,I cannot find many shortcomings of this software. However,if it had multi-language interface,it would be better.
