"VT Pro is OK"
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
Convenience of having the icon on the desk top and not going to the site itself is always good for me. It allows for a quick search for applications/software that I'm looking for. The app is strong doesn't crash or interfere w/other apps.
Cons
has a hard time recognizing my laptop especially after upgrades, too many times can't get access to "new software" and when it scans will not always update current apps correctly, it won't remove installed apps when I delete them.
Summary
It's nice to have. I use once a week. I try to keep up-to-date on all my computers' software and applications, and VT usually allows me to do this if that part of the application is functioning. I would like to see the preference section expanded some more. The only thing that drives me nuts is the fact that the application can't seem to connect to the internet when I know darned well that I'm connected. There needs to be some sort of correction there even though I've checked to make sure that my email address is correct numerous times. The one thing I wish I could do w/ VT is save my new applications to it and change the settings similar to what CNET does now. My major complaint may have more to do w/developers than the application, but I'm tired of downloading an application only to find out it won't work with my OS because it's made for Leopard or Snow Leopard and I'm running Tiger.

"Using TechTracker makes me miss Version Tracker a lot!"
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
It just works -- well
Cons
It is no longer available and is being phased out.
Summary
VersionTracker Pro, unlike TechTracker, is aware of PreferencePanes and other non-Applicaiton folder updates, provides information about what the update contains -- without having to go to a (separate) Web page, and seemed to be created by people who understood ease of use. The VersionTracker Web site itself was vastly easier to read and provided, at a glance, everything you needed to know about a product (what's new, publisher info and link, etc.). And, VersionTracker included an abundance of product history (and not just the current rev.). And, will someone please tell me why didn't CNET port all the user reviews from the VersionTracker pages? What a loss. In summary, I am not very pleased with what CNET has done to VersionTracker. It's a big step down. If only they had left well enough alone -- or simply adapted or adopted VersionTracker's best features (which is most of it).

"Super, best of its kind for the Mac."
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
Does everything you would expect with a very intuitive interface.
Cons
The c-net version for Mac is not up to this pgm. (hopefully it will be in the future)
Summary
If the c-net version for Mac becomes the equal of VersionTracker 4.5.1 I'd gladly pay double, however right now there isn't a good c-net version that will work well on any macOS..

"Why pay a lot of money...."
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
Seems to work fairly OK.
Cons
Far to expensive. Why pay for something you can get for free? CNET Techtracker does the job just as good, (probably better), than Versiontracker Pro and it is free!!
Summary
I will never pay $62.43, (Downloaded in Sweden),for VersionTracker in the future. I will stick to CNET TechTracker. It does an excellent job and I get it for nothing!

"never got activation number or receipt and no refund"
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
terrific advertising
Cons
no delivery of product, no receipt, no activation code and won't refund my money, taking legal action
Summary
too bad these kinds of companies exist (and they're successful merely by existing)
-
"good,just..so buggy, but ut's the best"
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
when it works it is superb, ,fast and accurate, and a useful list of new applications for the mac.
Cons
It quits unexpectedly far too often, and the version numbers are often incorrect, sometimes suggesting I downgrade to an older verion( dodgy for those who do't know the dangers!) A problem which is happening now , it wont accept my login A Pain!

"Can't connect to server"
Version: VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1
Pros
I really liked this product back in the old days but it now can't connect to the server rendering a key feature useless.
Cons
It is unable to connect to the server that tells it about software updates rendering it somewhat useless.
