When it comes to video files, nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Thankfully, VLC Media Player offers a one-stop solution for the file-format problem. The program supports playback of OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, DVD, and a whole slew of other file types. In addition, it also can function as a streaming media server. Because of its open-source foundation, VLC Media Player evolves quickly, with new features and fixes released frequently. Though the interface varies from platform to platform, the sparseness of the Windows version leaves plenty to be desired. The skinned mode perks things up slightly, but the program seems to suffer from unpredictable behavior when skinned. Also, the basic task of opening a file is far more confusing than it should be; the program gives you several options, including the head-scratching Quick Open File. Before knowing about VLC player, i had like many, an average of 3 media players (4 with windows media player)
Now i have VLC and of course wmp.
The more media players u have installed, the slower system u get, maybe the best argument for downloading it.
Cons
The only thing i don't like, is when u f.eks wanna jump to a specific scene in a video (not chapters)..
I have experienced that it's allmost impossible to fast forward with presicion! When u press fast forward, nd u find the scene, u press play to get normal playback right?
well, not here..U actually have to press the rewind button to gain normal playback..so if u have pressed the fast forward several times to get the fastest speed, u have to press that same amount in the opposite direction..That's only my experience though!

Plays all types of formats include XVID. Opens quickly. Simple interface. No spyware, adds, or other nastys. No downsides. Recommend as an alternative to Media Player which can't support MPEG 4, aka XVID.
Cons
No one-click operation to switch to full screen and once on full screen can't fast foward. Other than that, great player.

It's FREE! Yea, baby! With sooooo many video formats out there, you gotta have the VLC Media Player installed as your "play anything" application. CODECS (compression decompression), in layman's terms, is the technology used to translate analog data to digital and there are a ton of them out there, especially if you are a hard-core downloader like me. I used to always get files that wouldn't play on the standard players but VLC would always come through--so much in fact that now it's my first choice for media playback.
Cons
Not a ton of features, but it's free and it works well, so make sure to download this today.

It's true, it does matter. More and more everyday, we're heading toward "smaller and lighter" world. This small and simple player plays back just about anything. I have a quite few irregular formatted files in my folders, and until I found this player I wasn't able to see what they are.
