User Control 2007 takes a few clicks to prevent users from accessing programs, sites, and system areas like the Task Manager, but novices will need to first study the help file.
The neatly organized interface has numerous options and can be a bit overwhelming. The program organizes the features into three main categories: All Users, Restrictions, and Internet. The first section provides an overview of the restrictions for each user, user activity logs, and some general program settings. The Restrictions section holds the bulk of the available settings, and again the options are neatly organized. Most users will readily understand areas like Programs, Desktop, and IE Explorer. Less experienced users might need to refer to the Help file to understand sections such as Window Title or Network- especially how the former works differently from setting Program restrictions.
Most areas have check boxes next to possible restrictions. Use a pulldown menu to identify which user, then one click and the restriction is enabled for the selected user. Under the Internet section you can add content filters and change general IE settings. The settings are easy to understand, and allow you to block sites based on content. You can also add specific sites in addition to keyword and term filters.
Everything works as promised. The well-organized interface and quick check boxes for most settings help ease the learning curve. There is a lot to process, and you will need to spend some time getting the right settings in place for each user. User Control 2007 is definitely a program that warrants reading through the Help file to get the most benefits. Novice users might be overwhelmed by all this demo has to offer, but intermediate users and above looking for a user restriction program should definitely give User Control 2007 a try.
