Every computer operating system carries secrets in its guts, accessible to advanced users but generally too obscure for novice users to find. Tweak Genie reveals many of these setting changes and interface manipulations in a way that's simple to access, and easy to understand. Options run from taking away the "Shortcut" in the name of every new shortcut to speeding up an Internet connection, with many others dealing with user rights and security. Since many of these changes do deal with security settings, we were happy to see the program can be password-protected, keeping unauthorized users out. However, the lack of a tool to back up settings, so they can quickly be restored in case of trouble, is a definite minus. Nearly a third of the tweaks are disabled in the trial version. On the whole, it's true that the software does virtually nothing that many advanced users can't do themselves, but Tweak Genie does a good job of putting this power at a novice user's fingertips.
