With Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, you need only to provide your e-mail address to activate the full function 30-day free trial.
Once installed, the protection provided by Trend Micro is good. The two-way firewall blocks Internet threats, while scanners remove viruses, spyware, and rootkits. The interface is clean and intuitive, with configuration settings accessible for more advanced users. The suite includes additional tools to identify legitimate Wi-Fi hot spots (Wi-Fi Advisor), parental controls, Internet Web protection, home network protection, and even a system tune-up diagnostic (System Tuner).
Trend Micro provides free telephone, e-mail, and chat technical support, which is important since the online technical support information for Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 is not that good. Not only does Trend Micro lack a Getting Started PDF, but there is no manual and far too few knowledge base articles. Removal is clean: we found no traces of Trend Micro Internet Security on our system after reboot.

Version: Trend Micro Internet Security 17.0
"Excellent protection, even for a novice user"
Pros: This suite is one of the better around! It works much better than the leading competitors without a whole lot of user intervention. Allows on the fly web scanning including 6 layers of a compressed file! Once you install, it is like it's not even there unless it comes across something to warrant an alert.
Cons: Has higher overhead than some other suites, but if you have a newer machine and a decent amount of ram, then this is nothing when comparing to other suites and their level of protection to this. Other than the overhead (but no system lag) there is nothing to complain about.

Version: Trend Micro Internet Security 17.0
"Excrutiatingly Slow Performance"
Pros: Simple interface
Cons: Tried running Trend Micro Antivirus 11 after upgrading an old machine from WinME to WinXP. The O/S worked fine until I installed Antivirus. Email tech support was glacially slow and they work off a menu of instructions that I'd already tried and which did not help. I reinstalled XP twice - same problem upon reinstallig Antivirus. I just bought PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 and am having the same problem, even after fully uninstalling the old product using their pcctool. Hours and dollars wasted.

Version: Trend Micro Internet Security 17.0
"Absolutely the best Internet Security software"
Pros: It's easy to use, reliable, doesn't interfere with my routine tasks and doesn't control my computer the way Nortons and McAfee did. It's great!
Cons: It does slow background or parallel tasks. When the pop-up comes that it has new updates (daily or more frequently than that!) I am relieved to know my software is doing it's job and annoyed that it hangs my software for a few seconds. But that seems a small price to pay for a product as reliable as Trend Micro.

"Very quick - very simple - not at all intrusive. I do like this."
Pros: The product just works, it is simple to install, run, setup and I did not have to deal with endless whiney popups. Happy to recommend it as it made my life a lot easier.
