    Version: Tremulous 1.1

"One of the best freeware games available"

by SceptreX on March 17, 2007

Pros: Tremulous is an amazing game created from the source code of Quake III, but the game has become so much more and has advanced so much from simple deathmatch it is hard to believe. Anybody who sampled Natural Selection, the mod for Half-Life, will understand what is being dealt with here. It's a combination of Strategy and Shooter, and the game melds so well you'd swear you just paid fifty dollars for it.

The graphics, while not very good for modern games, will run on computers you didn't know still had it in them. The graphics engine has some great flourishes, and it runs on laptops or older PC's. On my 750 mhz, I honestly had no idea the box could pull off such a feat, but here is the very exception. The models look pretty nice, but the environments are extremely polished.

The gameplay is just brilliant, however, and that's what matters. It really is a team based shooter at heart, but then add in each races' special abilities and distinctions and you have an interesting play on the game. The structures for the humans are like turrets and placements in Tribes (another fine freeware gem) while the Aliens have a crazy hierarchy of spawning that becomes very complex as you explore it the most. But it's not complicated unless you want it to be: you can very well just stick with the basics, helping your team out. And it is so much fun. It all has variety and skill in every pore that the game will bring anybody back coming for more.

Cons: There are a few things that can be overlooked. The screen is much too dark when the game is first fired up, and you should definitely up the brightness setting to your monitor's liking. There's also a lack of a really good tutorial, though there are some bot servers out there. The game is only multiplayer, though, so the skill will have to be created in your blood.

Speaking of blood, this is not a game for the kiddies. It, if it were rated by the ESRB, would either get a borderline Teen or Mature. There is plenty of Violence and Blood to spare.

But all that aside, the game just stuns me. Just an hour went by and I spent jumping between player and spectator, because even watching the other gamers duke it out it thrilling. Just wait until I get my chops. This is a game I'm coming back for more.

"an additive shooter its different from other shooter games"

by Arthon on July 24, 2006

Pros: you can be human or alien and fight each other or u can build a human or alien base & it has good graphics.

Cons: i wish they had death match or capture the flag instead of the same battles over and over again. this is still a good game

    Version: Tremulous 1.1

    "Excellent"

by Masterwares on October 12, 2006

Pros: Just like counterstrike, except without the buying ammo at the start of each round, this game combines fast-paced shooting with professional themes.

Cons: Some controls are hard to figure out premoniously, for example, if you are an alien you must hit the target exactly to kill it. This was greatly confusing to me when i first played the game.

"A great game. (but not perfect)"

by codegamer on August 23, 2006

    Pros: Completely free.

there is also a linux version (get from tremulous dot net).

doesn't require a state-of-the-art computer like most games today.

    addictive

easy to play once you get used to it.

Cons: is a little difficult to play at the beginning (gettingused to the physics, etc.).

tight corridors can cause some minor glitching. (getting stuck in the wall or floor)

tyrants (an evolution of the aliens) are too strong.

    "Addictive FPS shooter"

by testerpot on August 23, 2006

Pros: Have had this game for about 2 months, the servers have started to fill up already with loonies who are on all day, which is a sign the game is becoming popular. Have played C strike, Halflife, COD etc...this game is just as addictive and uses all the same controls. Once you get to grips with the Alien and Human team capabilities you can really have some fun. There is no spyware or any rubbish like that..this is a fully 100% great download..what the net is for! can't wait for an update!

Cons: Can be a bit repetitive, not many maps, some maps I always get lost on!!. It takes a while to master the different class abilities of both aliens and humans. Some weapons are a bit pointless and it can look a little clunky at times, generally however team weightings are fair unless one team is particularly bad!...overall its pretty damn good for freeware!!! If you like free stuff have a fast internet conection, and like a good shootem up, download and enjoy, I fully recommend
