"Ok game, but it gets boring."
Version: Tremulous 1.1
Pros
The frame rate is pretty stable. Doesn't require a overly powerful computer to run it steady. It's free.
Cons
Gameplay gets repetitive. Some of the textures look bland, and lacking color. Controls are a bit slippery. Sound effects can be annoying.
Summary
It's an ok game. It gets repetitive because there isn't many modes of play. There is no Capture the Flag, or Team King of the Hill, or even Deathmatch. The objective of the game is the same; human kill all aliens, and aliens kill all humans. Humans use technology for weapons, and building structures while Aliens use organic growth to build structures, and evolution to get stronger. There is no real ambushes in this game, or stealth tactics unless you are a alien against a human with no helmet. Stage 2 human technology allows humans to use a helmet that has radar to detect the aliens, and the aliens have an inherent radar ability to know where humans are, so there is no real sneaky tactics here. Aliens need many shots to actually kill, if they are highly evolved. Humans have different weapons depending how high you level your technology. To level technology, you need to kill certain amount of aliens, and you get credits for killing them, so you can buy weapons, and gear. Aliens have a similar system, you kill a human, you get a credit that can allow you evolve into a stronger alien. Humans have a wide assortment of weapons, that increase in damage, but not necessarily superior in every way with the exception of damage. For example, the Pulse Rifle does more damage than the regular Assault Rifle, but it's projectiles travel at a much slower pace, or very slow time of flight. This means that if you shoot the weapon, the projectile takes a longer time to hit the intended target. The most powerful weapon for the humans is the most obvious. The Lucifer Canon, while very powerful has an incredibly slow time of flight, you can literally outrun your own projectile you fired. Though some servers alter the physics of things such as ammo, clips, time of flight, it doesn't seem right. This gives the game a larger learning curve when it comes to weapons than the usual damage, rate of fire type of differences. Aliens in my opinion have the biggest learning curve, they each have their own damage, and attacks, but they also can differ in physical abilities such as jumping high, jumping off of walls, crawling on walls, pouncing, and dashing, so each evolutionary state of the aliens have their own methods of attack that require different user inputs to master. Humans can only jump three times, and they get too tired to jump again, unless they catch their breath again though some servers remove this annoying feature. The game is predicated on team game play. No matter the race, or species, there is two types aliens, and humans in the game play, one is either a builder, and the other is a soldier. The builder builds structures such as respawns, defense structures, and other things, and the soldiers are like the infantry. Building is a slow process for humans, but again, servers can change the rules of the game, which can allow building to be a painless process. It's a ok game, but it gets boring, because most of the time, there is a lot of camping inside, and along the defenses, and there isn't much tactics displayed other than the dominant camping tactic, so the battle, or scrimmage can take hours just to finish. There is no music that I know of. Sound effects are annoying such as the jet pack, and lots of firing involved. I actually get more bored playing this game than not playing it, however it's free, and decent game, so if you are curious it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

"Bad Game/ Don't Get"
Version: Tremulous 1.1
Pros
Free that's it.
Cons
Bad graphics, buggy and mean gaming community.
Summary
There aren't many people that play this game but the people who do play, are very mean. They kick people for nothing, especially new players. I'd look to Urban Terror first, at least they are kind to newbies. Thanks for looking.
Never mind what I said earlier about this game. It's a great game that I've been playing for over 3 years now. It's a competitive game with a great community. So I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a great free game. GET THIS GAME NOW!!!

"One of the best freeware games available"
Version: Tremulous 1.1
Pros
Tremulous is an amazing game created from the source code of Quake III, but the game has become so much more and has advanced so much from simple deathmatch it is hard to believe. Anybody who sampled Natural Selection, the mod for Half-Life, will understand what is being dealt with here. It's a combination of Strategy and Shooter, and the game melds so well you'd swear you just paid fifty dollars for it.
The graphics, while not very good for modern games, will run on computers you didn't know still had it in them. The graphics engine has some great flourishes, and it runs on laptops or older PC's. On my 750 mhz, I honestly had no idea the box could pull off such a feat, but here is the very exception. The models look pretty nice, but the environments are extremely polished.
The gameplay is just brilliant, however, and that's what matters. It really is a team based shooter at heart, but then add in each races' special abilities and distinctions and you have an interesting play on the game. The structures for the humans are like turrets and placements in Tribes (another fine freeware gem) while the Aliens have a crazy hierarchy of spawning that becomes very complex as you explore it the most. But it's not complicated unless you want it to be: you can very well just stick with the basics, helping your team out. And it is so much fun. It all has variety and skill in every pore that the game will bring anybody back coming for more.
Cons
There are a few things that can be overlooked. The screen is much too dark when the game is first fired up, and you should definitely up the brightness setting to your monitor's liking. There's also a lack of a really good tutorial, though there are some bot servers out there. The game is only multiplayer, though, so the skill will have to be created in your blood.
Speaking of blood, this is not a game for the kiddies. It, if it were rated by the ESRB, would either get a borderline Teen or Mature. There is plenty of Violence and Blood to spare.
But all that aside, the game just stuns me. Just an hour went by and I spent jumping between player and spectator, because even watching the other gamers duke it out it thrilling. Just wait until I get my chops. This is a game I'm coming back for more.

"Excellent"
Version: Tremulous 1.1
Pros
Just like counterstrike, except without the buying ammo at the start of each round, this game combines fast-paced shooting with professional themes.
Cons
Some controls are hard to figure out premoniously, for example, if you are an alien you must hit the target exactly to kill it. This was greatly confusing to me when i first played the game.

"Awesome game!"
Version: Tremulous 1.1
Pros
This game is really really popular, and reminds me alot of Natural Selection but simpler and more fun. Graphics are really nice, still kind of old gen, but still great. This is probably my favorite freeware game ever, and I really look forward to new release.
Cons
Hard to learn at first, if you don't know this kind of game, lots of noobs trying to figure things out. Graphics are on an older engine, but still nice.
