From Steve Wise:
I like to keep things in the Trash for a while until I'm sure I don't need them. For many years I used a nice control panel named "Trashman" from Dan Walkowski which deletes things from the Trash automatically after an adjustable interval, which I had set to 14 days, so I never had to empty the Trash manually and I could retrieve things from it for up to two weeks. Unfortunately that old software causes crashes under OS 9 and apparently has not been updated, so I have written a short Applescript to replace it. This script deletes items that have been sitting in the Trash for at least two weeks, or however long you set it for. It is actually better than Trashman in that it does not erase Finder comments (if any) when date-stamping a file, so that if you decide to retrieve a file or folder its comment will still be there, only it might be preceded by a date stamp.
The script uses the deleteFile command of Jon Pugh's scripting addition "Jons Commands", which you can also find here on VT.
What's new in this version:
- Trap delete failure so script can process the remaining items.
