Tipster is a nifty program that will let you quickly calculate tips and taxes on your Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 device. With a simple tap, you can instantly view the tip and tax amounts required for a given purchase. This figure can be viewed separately, or incorporated into the final sum you owe. The program also offers an easy-to-use interface, and will let you to configure the amounts and percentages used in calculations. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

The concept is simple: Calculate tips quickly from your mobile phone. Tipster does just that in a single, attractive screen, and also throws in a field for splitting the cost evenly among parties from two to 10. Weirdly lacking is a way to enter the percentage into the tip field--calculations are limited to 5 percent increments, from 0 to 30 percent. The field for entering the bill total has also been strangely implemented, not as a blank slate, but prefilled with zeros. Don't make a mistake or you'll have to input the total again, a minor annoyance in an otherwise useful app.

  "It's a convenient program to help split a check with a group."

  Pros: It has easy entry and you are able to change amounts as necessary.

  Cons: I don't like the inability to enter the meal tax separate from the meal cost. Not that I'm cheap but I would rather tip for service and not pay extra to the server on the state sales tax which is due too. It could also use an exit button.

  "Simple App for Tipping"

  Pros: You have to install program on your PC first and have your phone sync before your able to use application. It's very simple to use and the image is clean and sharp. There is an ad at the bottom for the company but it's not intrusive.

  Cons: My only complaint is there is no exit option. You have to go to task manager to close.
