Despite lacking a Help file, KMPlayer is one of the most powerful freeware video players we've seen. It includes a vast array of video- and audio-capturing options, as well as skins, a plethora of playback controls and tweaks, and broad DVD support.
You'll have to learn the ropes yourself, perhaps a hindrance to newcomers. But if you're familiar with where things ought to be in programs, and willing to patiently wait for mouse-over labels to pop up and then click on them for the actual menus, KMPlayer has the potential to be immensely rewarding. It supports all major file formats, and all of the minor and obscure ones we tested. It did have problems with the RealPlayer 11's video capture IVR format, but not much else.
Advanced options include frame capture and a frame-forward feature, which is actually a fractional Play button, but the difference is negligible. The Pause button is a fast responder, too. Combined with streaming TV and HDTV compatibility, playlists, and the ability to select which codec is used on a video-by-video basis, and you get a media player that demands attention.

Pros: I've tried a large number of free video players, and none are as stable and as functional as this one. Comes with everything you need to play any kind of media file. It's way better than Windows Media Player
Cons: The skin website downloads are disabled and have been for some time. Most of the skins for the player are unavailable, but if you meticulously search in the forms, you can find some links to skins that are better than the default.

"Seriously, its the best free player"
Pros: This seems to be the most stable free player I have come across. The navigation controls to jump around in a movie is bril. I don't use it for music much, but the player works fine. Just been trying out the capture features to capture streams, audio and video, works a treat. There are many more features that I don't use because I just wanted a good reliable player with easy to understand controls, I think this meets my targets. All others have failed in too many ways. Recommended.
Cons: It would be nice to have a better play list for things like music. Maybe a tree structure for example and ways of sorting, like by dates or artist and things like that. Then I would be tempted to use it for my music too.

"The best video player on the planet."
Pros: This is a very advanced professional video player. It is very possible that some people will not be able to understand the settings. I do not mean to be condescending, but it is very advanced.
This is the latest final stable release and has many improvements over the previous builds.
Cons: Nothing! It is the most perfect program of it's kind.
