Publisher's description of The GIMP 2.2.13
From Gimp:GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It is a powerful piece of software with capabilities not found in any other free software product. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert-quality photo-retouching program, an online batch-processing system, a mass production image renderer, or an image-format converter. GIMP is modular, expandable, and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image-manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.
Note: You will need to download both GTK+ Runtime Environment and The Gimp installers. Install GTK+ before installing The Gimp.

Version: The GIMP 2.2.13
"powerful yet at a free price."
Pros: a extremely powerful image editor. with layer and vast range of graphic format support, over 100 built-in filter effects(special effects), image coverting, all the basic tools like cropping, rotate/flip, pencil, brush, etc. to more professional tools like magic wand, blur/sharp and much much more. but that's just the start, buried deeply in this applications menu and floating tool bars is a dozen of expert sets of configuration tools to fix/retouch even the best of all images. it can make professional looking 3D images or animations in just minutes under a master users hand. it is truly the most powerful imaging program amongest photoshop and other heavily priced products.
Cons: the only thing about this application people are complaining about is it's not aimed for novices. average computer user would find this program very hard to use due to the lack of friendly interface, too advanced/complex features and no built-in tutorial or help files. paint.net is a very good alternative to gimp for the ease of use and just enought feature for standare users.

"Little more complicated than Photoshop, but just as useful"
Pros: For those of you who have given this program bad reviews because you're blind and/or unable to think clearly, you really need to look around to see all of the features that this program has. One review complained that you can't draw circles with Gimp. I laughed when I saw that. For drawing circles, you use the circle tool...not the paths tool..
Anyway, after using Gimp and Photoshop, there's a lot of similarities. I regret paying for Photoshop after seeing all of the same features in Photoshop in Gimp. It's a handy, free program, and just as good as many other expensive ones. Beginners will find it somewhat complicated though. Still, don't make a review if you're new to the program and don't know anything about it.
Cons: Interface could use some work...
