- "More than database tagging"
- Version reviewed: TagScanner 5 build 514
Digital music is all well and good, but who wants to type in album and artist information for each track? With the free TagScanner, you don't have to. This efficient and powerful tag editor lets you edit metadata automatically as well as by hand, both for individual files and file batches.
The automatic tagging feature is most impressive. Although it can hit up online databases such as FreeDB, Discogs, and Amazon like many other auto-tagging apps, it can also generate tags from file and folder names--something many others can't. It works in the opposite direction, too, generating filenames from tags.
TagScanner has an elegant and orderly interface, and lets you preview filenames before applying changes. The only catch is that you'll need to spend some time learning the program's file- and tag-naming language. However, if you have thousands of music tracks crying out for organization, that's a small price to pay.

Version: TagScanner 5 build 514
Pros: I have only used it once, but this tool is very useful when you get frustrated or annoyed when trying to edit mp3 and music tags using Window's "properties." This tool makes it easier to navigate and get the job done quicker without that constant right clicking hassle that can take you hours. It also lists more editing features than the regular editing tags on Windows "properties" for music files. Overall, this product hasn't crashed on me, very lightweight, and IS very useful to get rid of those annoying, unnecessary, useless information, or even add some more!

"Great Tagging Software....For Music Files, NOT Movies & TV Shows"
Pros: 1. It's FREE
2. Easy to use
3. I can finally edit MPEG-4 Tags (Partially, anyway)
Cons: Don't plan on tagging MPEG4 files of movies or TV episodes. The tagging options are limited to music video data: Artist, Album, etc. I'm disappointed that this software doesn't give you the ability to label TV Series, Episode Title, Episode Number, Season, etc. With that being said, It's still free. It's great for tagging MP3's. I'd rather use this software than Media Monkey.

Version: TagScanner 5 build 514
Pros: This is such a good and useful program. It's free and effective. Great for lots and lots of mp3s, since it's all laid out on the screen in a neat fashion.
Cons: I'm not sure if it's been added or not yet, but I don't think there's an undo button.

Version: TagScanner 5 build 514
Pros: Edit tags and rename audio-files fast and easy.
Cons: I having issues only when renaming files, the applicaton stalls and eats up one of my processors for 50%. A reboot is required then.
