From TMPG :Built on the strength of the famous TMPGEnc video encoder series widely used since 1998, TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress is a video-encoding tool that allows you to efficiently produce high-quality movie clips for easier use and storage. Once you convert and compress your video, you can export it to be viewed on desktop and laptop computers, as well as on PVPs, PDAs, and DVD players (separate authoring software is required). Convert a wide array of file formats, including videos in MPEG-1/2, DVD-Video VOB, Windows Media Video, AVI, QuickTime, as well as Windows Media Center Edition, which you can use to import TV programs you recorded and convert them for DVD creation. Output files to MPEG-1/2, WMV, or the highly efficient XDVD format for storage of up to 24 hours of movies on a single, dual-layer DVD disc. The program comes with Dolby Digital AC-3 support

"Not a free trial, and not offered at the listed price"
Pros: it's purple.
Cons: 1.) Program wants a serial number before it even starts. I thought I'd trust cnet's opinion and just buy it.
2.) The program costs $58. NOT $49.95.
3.) The program has already input the first 4 digits of the serial number, but those were different than what I received, and I couldn't change the input.
4.) They're closed today - holiday and all, so we'll have to see how this tragedy ends.

"good software but funny way of obtaining a trial code"
Pros: the software does support Windows XP Media Center Recorded TV files(.dvr-ms). You can convert .dvr-ms to an .Avi, .Mpg or other format.
Cons: the software has to connect to some sort of server to verify/obtain the trial code in order to work... if the software cannot not connect to the internet then your out of luck, and it won't work at all. i hate software that works like this.

"Media Center ownera can't beat this. It does those DVR-MS Files"
Pros: Everything!!! It has filters that will let you do just about everything you can think of. A book that comes with it at about 72 pages to explain what is what. You don't need to be a Doctor to use it, it is easy once you get into it. If you have VCR tapes you put onto DVDs, it can help to clear up the dust look from the VCR tapes that are on DVDs. It does concert DVR-MS files to any file you want to put it in.
I could go on and on but don't let the trail version fool you, once you buy it, it gets even better.
You can not go wrong with this in anyway. I give it 5 stars, wish I could give more

Cons: It is the best encoder I used. Many possibilities to choise parameters, wondeful video quality! The clips with a lot of movements are very fluent.

Pros: Programs works great, the Cnet editors couldnt have said it best. It has encoded my videos with no problems whatsoever.
