Although it lacks a few features we'd like to see, this well-designed privacy program handles most of its chores efficiently. System Privacy Shield's colorful, modern-looking interface makes it immediately clear how to access settings and initiate a cleaning session. As is standard for this type of utility, System Privacy Shield deletes Web-surfing tracks (Opera and Firefox are supported). It also tidies up common Windows system areas and lets you schedule cleanups. The list of supported third-party programs isn't as comprehensive as we've seen with other utilities in this category, but it includes a few major media players and P2P clients. On the plus side, you can design a cleaning plug-in yourself if you know which files and Registry keys to delete. The latest version introduces a file shredder, but it didn't work well in our tests. A recovery tool easily found a file we deleted using System Privacy Shield. On most counts, System Privacy Shield is a positive affair, but those who need secure deletion or extensive support for third-party software will probably be happier with a different package.
