This pop-up and hijacker blocker works, but it has been surpassed by the capabilities of current browsers. SurfClean's dialog-sized option screen is easy to follow, but the online help manual will help the very new user. Options are simple to adjust, with most needing merely a single click.
SurfClean can be easily set to block all pop-ups and new browser windows. However, you must check options to block both pop-ups with address boxes and those without. A slightly more tedious to set option makes it possible to redirect Web pages to a selected home page. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to quickly add a list of blocked pages. Neither can users create a list of Web sites allowed to spawn new windows or create pop-ups.
The program's all or nothing approach to pop-ups has been bypassed by the optional site-specific method used by current browsers. SurfClean works only with Internet Explorer, and while it might be useful for older versions of the browser, it would simply get in the way of the current edition. The demo has a short five-day test period, but that should be more than enough time to see if it works well with your older browser.
