SugarSync Desktop offers a complete, but sufficiently compact desktop manager for viewing and arranging the multimedia files that will be stored online as part of the SugarSync service to be retrieved via the SugarSync client on a Mac, other Windows laptops, a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile phone, or from your personal Web address from any other Web-friendly device.

SugarSync gets high ratings for its ease of use, reliability, and above all, its speed. There are nice extra features, like the Magic Briefcase that delivers between platforms the content you drop into it without having to browse through multiple file systems, and a quick link to your personal Web site. A search field would not go amiss, especially if you're not certain of your file's location and haven't had the foresight to include your file into the briefcase. Despite that, this service makes mincemeat of many competitors in the remote access space for its ability to monitor multiple computers and platforms with little fuss.

"Truly the worst customer experience ever !!!!!"

May 22, 2015  |  By ColdWatch4

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.4.0

Pros

It works as described.

Cons

Down grade policy - only once a year at renewal
No notification that renewal is coming up
Unhelpful customer service

Summary

72 hours before my subscription was due I was bumped into a higher plan, I was not advised of this nor informed that my subscription was due. But I was billed for the higher plan. When I raised this with customer service they threaten to delete all my data if I did not stop with the complaint. I even wrote to the Sugarsync CEO Mike Grossman but got not response.

"Customer Service Stinks"

May 04, 2015  |  By Peter Pensotti

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.4.0

Pros

It worked.

Cons

Customer Service
Billing Policies
Slow

Summary

I used SS for 3 yrs, enjoyed it while I had it, but tried to cancel after 2 days into my renewal and found out they will not stop billing you, will not prorate your service, so now I just paid $50 for nothing, feels like they are stealing from their customers. This is really frustrating and shows they just don't care about service only about short term profits. Very Dissatisfied.

"The worst customer support we have ever encountered!"

February 08, 2015  |  By arcgrl

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.3.0

Pros

Pretty good folder integration when it works, friendly interface.

Cons

Freezes and crashes, terrible customer support, very expensive plans (especially to existing users).

Summary

We have been using Sugarsync for about 2 years now, paying $100 a year for 100GB of storage. Though Sugarsync has significantly increased its plans for new users (the 250GB plan is offered for the same price that we are paying for only 100GB), they have refused numerous requests to upgrade us to this plan.

In a newsletter they've sent in October 2014 they promised the upgrade will be done early this year. Upon our inquiry this January, said upgrade has been pushed back to February. 2 days ago our storage space has completely run out, so we have contacted them once again, only to find out that the upgrade has been delayed to the end of March.
No solution was offered to our current problem.

Because of our slow connection and the reliance on their cloud services on a distant computer we don't have everyday access to, changing to a new cloud storage provider is a huge hassle, but if you're not tied to them yet, do avoid...

"no support customer nor tech"

February 02, 2015  |  By what?????

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.3.0

Pros

Versions 1.x and 2.x work well

Cons

Original release of version 3.0 was really an alpha version with only about 3 basic features working. The current version 3.x is a beta version as many basic features of previous are still missing. They refuse to provide full working previous version. Basic nightly maintenance of their servers is NOT. Tech support is NOT. User forum has been basically closed but then moderators rarely responded... As other users mention, they don't communicate about upcoming renewal, system outage, etc.

Summary

Don't trust Cnet's review as it is over two years old. Read users' reviews of real experiences.

"Great tool"

January 25, 2015  |  By fvanonna

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.3.0

Pros

I run Sugarsync on about 5 pc's and have been a user since .. I guess about 8 years.. Each pc has specific folders synced to it, and not just from 1 root folder, every folder from every pc can ben backup up and synced. This means when i'm working downstairs I just save my file, and I can continue working upstairs.

I also use it to backup my photo's and important other stuff. Because I keep these on only 1 pc and in the cloud ,these don't take up space on my other pc's.

If you delete something on purpose - no problem. Sugarsync has a backup (like a recycle bin) online that you can access yourself if you ever delete something from synced folder by accident. This has saved my day a couple of times.

Cons

The only con they had was that it was a bit expensive and the user interface was a bit confusing for a while (it used to be good, then they changed it and it wasn't so good, but they recently changed the interface again and now it's all good again. They also changed their plans (I get 250 GB instead of 100 GB now) so pricing is very fair now as well.

Summary

Dropbox on steroids - perfect for people with more pc's and as backup.

"Unscrupulous business practices"

December 31, 2014  |  By jcwest01

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.3.0

Pros

None at this point

Cons

Unethical business practices.

Summary

I never had a problem with the software, but I'm not happy with their business practices. When they went to a "pay only" service they offered one year for $35. I signed up because I was using it with school. After a couple of months I transferred everything to Microsoft Onedrive. Last week I got hit with a $75 renewal fee that is apparently not refundable. I do not like companies that do business this way. A simple reminder that your renewal is coming up is all that it would take from a legitimate company who cared about keeping customers. I've email the support team via the provided form twice this week. I still haven't received a response. There is not phone number to call.

"Buggy, unethical billing practices."

December 21, 2014  |  By rsigal

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.3.0

Pros

None. I found I could not trust the application to synchronize properly. Therefore I stopped using it after a month.

Cons

THEY RENEWED, WITHOUT NOTICE (other than fine print on my initial sign-up a year ago), Other users have indicated that they refuse any requests for pro-rated refund when you cancel..

I found I could not trust the application to synchronize properly. Therefore I stopped using it after a month.

Summary

STAY AWAY.

"Feature rich brilliant design. Slows down Mac unaccept."

November 22, 2014  |  By artmaltman

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.0.1

Pros

Very clear interface allows you to select individual folders on different machines and share them among different machines. Clever interface.

Cons

Slows down Macintosh Air unacceptably, even when all sync'ing is complete. Somewhat buggy - crashes periodically on Mac - but no loss of data so far.

Summary

So sad that the company is obsessed with adding features when they never seem to get the basics right. Make it run acceptably fast in the background on a Mac, at the least when sync'ing is complete! Long time user but I am drifting towards Dropbox, which is fast even though it's feature set is anemic.

"Constantly changing interface, endless frustration"

November 06, 2014  |  By joeberry3

 |  Version: SugarSync Manager 3.0.1

Pros

theoretically syncs well between devices and computers

Cons

constantly changing interface is confusing, syncing is buggy

Summary

I was an early adopter of SS. At first it seemed great. Then it started changing. And changing. Soon the interface was difficult, and the syncing problems started. Not syncing, or syncing in the wrong direction. Still, I held on. Then the free service disappeared, so I paid for a year. And the problems got worse. I now spend more time trying to figure out how to use whatever the latest incarnation is of the software than actually syncing. It's terrible. So, when my paid year is up, I think I'll finally bite the bullet and go to dropbox. Sorry SS...you had potential, but you blew it. Big time.
