Giving WinZip a run for its money, StuffIt Standard offers effortless file compression and encryption for any type of file. It matches WinZip in several features, including archived password protection, right-click compression, and a gallery of easy-to-use wizards. The utility also comes with a few unique features, including a robust search tool that locates files by date, type, size, and compression format. For others to decompress native StuffIt files, they'll either need the free StuffIt Expander utility or they'll be presented with a self-extracting archive, which adds to the overall file size. Fortunately, StuffIt also can compress in several other formats, including ZIP, TAR, and BinHex, though you won't get the added JPEG compression. Given its features, compression quality, and encryption options, StuffIt Standard stands up to WinZip in most areas. Digital-photo mavens may even prefer it.Publisher's description
From Smith Micro :StuffIt Standard Edition for Windows makes it easy to access any download or attachment and to send files that transfer quickly and securely. The application can create self-extracting archives that open automatically and also can find compressed files quickly. It has an easy-to-use drag-and-drop interface and wizards to email and upload archives to FTP sites. The application has a StuffIt Catalog that tracks all compressed files, supports RAR and TAR files, and comes with corruption and privacy protection. StuffIt makes it simple to access e-mail attachments and downloads that were compressed on any platform, including Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac. Plus, you can use the new drag-and-drop tools to open or view the contents of Zip, StuffIt, Tape, or other archives instantly.

Version: StuffIt Standard Edition 8.5
"DISGRACEFUL PRODUCT! --- Use Freeware expander "Extractnow" Instead!!!"
Pros: NONE! This programs stinks. - Instead use the Only alternative for Windows users that I have found - extractnow.com
Free! expander (make sure you get the Stuffit plugin as well and copy it to the Extractnow Folder)!
Cons: I just wanted to extract a few .sit files. After downloading the massive demo. I found it to be rubbish and uninstalled.
I searched long and hard for a program that will extract .sit and found "ExtractNow" worked by installing the .sit plugin found on extractnow.com

""Free Expander" - Name "StuffIt" Says It All"
Summary: I needed to help my in-laws open an archive in the ultra-proprietary ".sit" StuffIt format. No problem, there's a Free StuffIt Expander. Except, that you can only get it by downloading a commercial "Standard" version of StuffIt. No problem, there... read more >>

"Just stick with WinZip or WinRar!"
Summary: This program has problems a'plenty. If you try to *super* compress a file, (even with the .zip extension,) and then try to open it back up later with just regular Windows built in zip file handling, or WinZip or WinRar, it won't understand the file... read more >>

Version: StuffIt Standard Edition 8.5
Summary: Aladdin sucks! If you just want Expander you have to download this entire bloated software package. It's slower than the old versions, and if you double-click a file it opens Stuffit instead of just expanding the file to the folder as in previous ve... read more >>

Version: StuffIt Standard Edition 8.5
Summary: Simply put, I've had a frustrating time with this application. First and foremost, the developers left out numerous settings in ver 8 that ver 7 had, most of which were tremendously important, even though ver 7 doesn't seem to want to open .hqx fil... read more >>
