This interesting desktop news streamer offers only half its original functionality. In 2006, Streaming Stats World Cup Edition was released during the height of that year's Cup matches. Of course, the scores and stories from that tournament are now history. However, the streamer also offers current general interest information. You can easily set the program to stream current headlines from preselected sports sites and news organizations.
The streamer is an attractive window that is easily placed anywhere on your desktop. The bad news is that it can't be resized or skinned. With just a click you pick what you want streamed from news, sports, or the BBC's On This Day history lesson. Unfortunately, you can't choose where the program gets information. Our testers found CNN and Sporting News headlines constituted the majority of sports headlines. BBC, CNN, and the New York Times offered up the majority of the news headlines. Most headlines topped a paragraph summary of the article. Clicking the headline or article stopped the scroll. Double-clicking either opens the article in your default browser.
Options are few in this app. You can't set it permanently on an area of your desktop as each restart resets the interface to the center of your screen. Streaming Stats World Cup Edition works fine, but with its focus on the 2006 World Cup, it may not hold much appeal for users now.

Version: Streaming Stats World Cup Edition 1
Pros: I like the fact that you can choose any team playing in the world cup and be kept up to date with that team as well as the world cup in general. I also like the On This Day feed, it is interesting to view it each day. The software is easy to use and easy to understand.
Cons: I hate the fact that it always opens in the middle of the screen and you have to move it each time. They need to anchor it in your favourite position.
