Starbuck is an easy-to-use and customizable book reader that can read HTML. It can also accommodate accented texts, such as those in French. This program can be associated with document types so that a double-tap on a document will open it in Starbuck. Document shortcuts can be created for those of both the Windows CE and StarTap variety, so that when the documents are tapped they will open Starbuck automatically. The clean book reader screen uses 100 percent of the available space for the text. Pressing the Action button located on the exterior of the palmtop PC activates Starbuck's menu. The user can create customizable bookmarks, select an indent option, and access different sections of the e-book text. After the user jumps to some other location in the document, Starbuck makes it easy for him or her to get back to the previous location. Users can choose from five different font sizes and use any font style already installed on the palmtop device. E-book fans will enjoy Starbuck's quick loading capabilities (even with a 2MB e-book). Version 1.73 reads bReady books.

NO, I am not exxagerating here! I was not smart enough to pick up on the fact that my PDA was not compatable with the software, but before I found that out, I gave that 1-800 number a call and I immediately was talking to someone over the phone about it! Literally! No wait, no annoying menus to sit through if you are about to break somethin and want someone to talk to IMMEDIATELY. So who said that their service sucked because they did not get any responses to email. Try the number!

I bought Starbuck almost as soon as I bought a Pocket PC, and really liked it at first. But after so long without an update, and with some fairly glaring bugs in the code that NEED to be corrected, I've decided to withdraw my support. In fact, I even decided NOT TO BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT from this company because of their unwillingness to correct Starbuck. Why should I give money for another product from them -- it seems unlikely that they'll do a good job on another product given their history of churning out app after app fixing the ones they've got already. I tried, I really did. I wrote and gave my concerns to the company before writing this message, all to no avail.

Short of lacking user control over text and background color I can't think of any feature that is missing from it (you can only choose blk/wht or the reverse). It is very easy to use in general, the bookmarks can be improved though (microsoft reader does a better job at these). I particularly liked the auto-scroll feature (smooth scroll! not the jerky migraine-inducing full line one) using it you can read without having to tap or push anything! Had I made this software I wouldn't have sold it for less than three times its actual price!

This is one of the best programs ever for the above reasons and more. They weren't afraid to push the envelope on UI design--for ex., touching regions of the screen produces functions such as pagedown, find, find next, etc. And everything is customizable. Great.

Only 2 complaints: Regular interrupts by nagware "Register Me" cause the program to exit, needing multi-click restart. Occasional confusion when multiple volumes read. Need to manually stop unwanted programs in "Settings".

"Ebook reader for serious reader"

Great product, 10 dollars is reasonable price, reads multiple formats and has great potential. Think that the ability to read ziped HTML pages is a great feature. Easy to create ebooks with graphics (used for photo album purpose) remembers recently read documents. Can't recommend highly enough.

"Best Reader for Pocket PC"

The built in MS Reader is just awful. Too few words on the screen, and the entire interface sucks. Aportis, with a very large book takes nearly 5 minutes to open. Want to change font size? Another 5-minute wait. MobiPocket. Free, fast and very capable so long as all you want to do is change fonts and go page by page. I actually recommend it. Starbuck? Awesome, baby! As fast as MobiPocket, can open MANY formats including all the ones native to the Palms. There are 12 screen areas that can each be given one of 26 functions, and can the various buttons. You can read hands free with the very SMOOTH autoscroll (not that line-by-line jerky nonsense). Best I've seen for the WINCE or the Palm at any price.
