This spyware scanner and removal tool does the job, but enabling some functions may cause slight slowdowns and it's not ready for Vista.
Spyware Terminator's crisp, clean interface uses simple buttons and tabs to operate and set options. The latest spyware signatures are automatically downloaded, and the real-time protection keeps baby-sitting to a minimum. Real-time protection monitors key spyware types and Windows objects, though slight system slowdowns depend on your machine. Those features and the simple scheduler will make this app appealing to novices.
Advanced users will appreciate Spyware Terminator's flexibility. Setting the sensitivity of various scans is as easy as moving a slider. Experienced users will want to enable the built-in antivirus tool, which extends the power of real-time analysis by comparing program code against a database of known viruses, Trojans, and worms.

"Best Free AntiSpyware That Has Real-Time Protection"

realize guys other free products either have no real-time protection, no scheduled scanning or no auto updates. only other 1 i know that offers it is windows defender and it doesnt update as well, and doesnt find as much stuff plus the deep scan in windows defender can take hrs.
Cons: only downsides i know r the HIP is too sensitive and the fact it was developed by a company that used to make spyware, but i c it as who better to make a antispyware program than a company who use to make spyware?

Pros: nice UI, free active protection and some good features too. BUT
Cons: I use 3 antispyware apps and i have bin observing Spyware terminator's perfomance for 4 months and all the others catch a viarity of adware and this only has bin getting rid of tacoma cookie thats it...for months! so i gave up on it and uninstalled. you will not now unless your running more than one antispyware wich is recomended anyways...sorry for misspell in a hurry. good luck....Oh, remember ad-aware se is free run them one after the other and you'll see...

Version: Spyware Terminator 1.7
Pros: It's very configurable, with plenty of user options, has HIPS (which, if on, will create an alert window for every unknown application before it can run- best to disable this when installing known trusted software) and appears to offer excellent protection. Haven't had to test it's cleaning ability since installing, which says something. Quite fast at scanning, not a resource hog, using 23000~ on XP, good forum support, you can tell the developers are really trying to get it right.
I suggest downloading direct from the Spyware Terminator homepage to avoid problems mentioned by another reviewer. I've had no problems at all downloading it.
Cons: Minor niggles only.Sometimes the automatic updates appear to fail for the (optionally) integrated WinClam AV, some settings eg for update, are not remembered by the application. If installing a new version over the top it can create problems. I've found it best to completely uninstall the old, then install the new version afresh. This is version 1.7.899, and the fourth one (not including Betas) since August.Some users report bugs, I think it's the unlucky few, and the frequency of updates strongly indicates a commitment to sorting them.
Crawler.com have had connections in the past that have put some off trying this out, so they have to work harder than the average company to prove their product. IMO they've proved it rather well.

(6.)REAL-TIME PROTECTION, I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW THAT THIS HAS THE BEST REAL-TIME SHIELD EVER! (7.)UPDATER CAN BE SET TO AUTOMATIC AND THE PRODUCT HAS UPDATES LIKE TWICE A WEEK. Pros: This is still a very good product that offers rare Realtime protection for a free product.
Cons: Despite the nice Realtime Shield, ST has taken a step back in its HIPS component for its recent release. I tested the ST HIPS using the Spycar and Advanced Process Termination tests. In those tests the ST HIPS was not effective in stopping termination of ST, autostart or IE Configuration changes. The Realtime Shield is still a viable component but it is recommended that users not rely on the ST HIPS. Instead try running ST with HIPS disabled and concurrently run a free HIPS program such as Dynamic Security Agent, System Safety Monitor or Prosecurity.
Also, I would recommend that spyware scans be done using another program (or two) as well. ST still produces a fair amount of false positives. Free on-demand scanners would include Ad-Aware, SuperAntiSpyware and AVG's Anti-Spyware. Actually AVG should be considered a "must have" as it scans for malware other products do not.
I would also not recommend using the ClamAV enabled. It is alright as a #2 scanner but other free anti-virus programs such as AVG, Antivir or AOL's Active Virus Shield provide much more protection.
