"This is an excellent software program."
Version: SpotInside 1.0.1
Pros
Fast and does what it says it does. You can see the searched words in the document.
Cons
I have not used it enough at this point.

Excellent product!

"Great replacement for OS 9's RetrieveIt!"
Version: SpotInside 0.9
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Finally an OSX replacement for OS 9's RetrieveIt! which shows found strings IN CONTEXT without having to open each document. You can cycle through each found instance with great ease and even copy and paste from the view window and keep the formatting.
This is just excellent and I'd certainly be willing to pay for this if I could find where to send some money. -
"best thing since Ultrafind"
Version: SpotInside 0.5.2
Summary

excellent product for searching documents. a must have if you need to locate content within documents.
to the developer: why only highlight one word? it highlights one search word just fine. but if I search for even two terms to narrow my search (due to thousands of hits), I am left having to my eyes for each terms.
it would be a superior build if it highlighted all your search terms as Google cache does. until then, four stars.
great work! -
"Spotlight's Daddy!"

Forget "find", forget "spotlight" ... SpotInside is the one and deserves a place in everyone's dock. The developer is a star! -
"GOOD STABLE LITTLE PEARL"
Version: SpotInside 0.4
Summary

I hope this beautiful software will introduce the ability to change the text of the documents it finds directly inside itself, a la DevonThink way. Anyway, it is very good as it is. -
"Some bugs..."
Version: SpotInside 0.3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
...still need to be squashed in this version. For example, File Pathname from the columns when customizing will crash the application when selecting results in subsequent searches. I would like to have more control over adding and deleting paths...and giving those paths customized names. For freeware, though, this is really a stellar application and has found a place in my dock. -
"works again"

Happy to say this new version works again. Thanks for the improvements. Anyway, it would be important to have search for phrases too, word pairs and so on .... Another is the ability to change text directely indise spotinside. Keep ip the good work. -
"Great piece of work"
Version: SpotInside 0.2.8

I would like to be able to sort the results alphabetically according to filename, not score. But clicking on the filename column header does nothing. Any possibilty this could be a feature request? -
"Great App, but with one caveat"
Version: SpotInside 0.2.4
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This works much better than Spotlight, in the way search results are presented. Listings are given by order of "score". Plus you can immediately view the contents of a file in the lower panel.
There is one problem. After a while, I forgot the details of what this app does and began relying on it for all searches instead of Spotlight. But, the problem is this - it only searches .txt, .rtf, .doc, .pdf, .html, and perhaps one or two other text types. It doesn't search mail for example. If you forget this and begin relying on SpotInside for all searches, you'll obviously miss a lot of data. I'm not sure what the author can do - perhaps include some statement at the top, like "searching text files" or some some thing as a reminder. This would be helpful for those who wouldn't use the app on a daily basis. -
"Most Useful"
Version: SpotInside 0.2.2
Summary

Now why hasn't someone come up with something like this sooner? I'd like to see some documentation (although I understand how it may be difficult given that the developer is Japanese), and please...an icon of some sort? I HATE the generics.
