CNET Editors' review
Versoworks describes Speckie as the first spell-checker for Internet Explorer. This free add-on brings real-time spell-checking to text entry fields in Microsoft's Web browser. It's compatible with the latest versions of Internet Explorer, including IE 9.
We downloaded and installed Speckie, which is larger and involves more steps than the typical browser add-on. We opened IE, which notified us that Speckie was active. We clicked Enable, and then clicked Speckie Settings on IE's Tools menu. While the add-on offers only a few options, we could also add additional language dictionaries or custom dictionaries via the settings page. Speckie proved very easy to use. For example, we browsed to a Web site and entered some text in the site search tool. Speckie underlined the term in red, the default color (which can be changed). We right-clicked the text box, and an extensive pop-up menu offered several spelling suggestions as well as choices such as Add to Dictionary and Ignore All; we could also access Speckie's settings from this menu. We found nothing to fault in Speckie's spell-checking capabilities, and its Updates and other functions all worked fine, too.
We think Speckie is a great idea that can save a lot of wasted time and confusion by checking your spelling in IE as you type. It's great for searches, data entry fields, and other daily business, but just think about how great it is to be able to check your spelling in online forums and similar postings before you hit Send.

"It works very well."
Version: Speckie 5.8.0
Pros
Installs easily and you don't notice it's there until you need it.`
Cons
None that I've seen.
Summary
Just right click on the highlighted word and it offers several solutions. Some days when you have a brain cramp and you swear that you have the right spelling of a word, is no longer a problem with Speckie. It just works automatically, something that IE should have had from the beginning, a spell checker.

"NUMERO UNO IE ADDON,TEACHES REDMOND A LESSON.PERIOD."
Version: Speckie 5.8.0
Pros
nearly flawless working, needs no help file, simple options that do not confuse you, tiny and responsive,a mini dictionary at your beck and call 24x7,works unobtrusively and in perfect tandem with internet explorer, doesnt boggle an already slow ie down at all.
Cons
hardly any i can think about.well could highlighting the particular word have more colourful and designer options, like the one you can do with cursor styling?
Summary
lean and responsive.a feature redmond never thought about adding to their bundled browser.unarguably one of the best indepedent and useful addon ie can be associated with filling up a critical shortcoming.unlike the largely useless and mostly outdated addons that ieaddongallery offers this one is regularly updated by versoworks developers.a brilliant piece of plugin that users love and marvel at and that comes as an eyeopener to ie team at redmond.

"As usual, IE missed the boat..."
Version: Speckie 4.6.1
Pros
Fixes Microsoft's oversight...
Cons
Not as good as native tools in Chrome or Firefox
Summary
IE is the only browser available that doesn't include a built-in spell checker. Just another reason I avoid IE for web browsing; the only time I fire up IE is to test my design/development work... It's sad really, when you consider how many mostly-useless features and options IE 9 offers the user, yet no native spell check. Brilliant. Shouldn't we assume that IE is geared toward business like all of Microsoft's software? But I guess there's no need to spell check any work you do in the browser, at least according to Microsoft's thinking.
I'm grateful for Speckie for rectifying Microsoft's omission... -
"This is the only I.E. add on I love"

"Speckie is a must"
Version: Speckie 4.6.1
Pros
Does what it says with no fuss at all. does not put a silly tool bar in explorer. It just sits in the background until needed. Something like this should have been part of I.E from the start.
Cons
None that I have found
Summary
Download Speckie you will not regret doing so. It's the best I. E. add on that I have found.

"Caution File is corrupt"
Version: Speckie 4.0
Pros
There are no pros
Cons
The file tried to load something called Yanto tool bar and when I tried to get out of it, the set up went to a different screen. Not that of the Speckie software. My virus scans both MacAfee and Malware bites flagged it as a corrupted file. So beware.

"Downloaded But Nothing Worked"
Version: Speckie 4.0
Pros
Didn't work, so can't comment.
Cons
Downloaded three different times from three different sites - CNET, Softpedia, MajorGeeks - shows it is installed in programs but it never ran in memory, never installed an icon, never worked. Deleted three times.
Summary
Have Windows7, IE9, 4mb ram, never worked. Followed all the instructions but it never worked. How about some answers/hints/tips from Speckie?
You have to enable the thing in the Manage Add-ons section of Tools. I enabled it in the pop up when it first installed but that didn't work for some reason.

"Free and it works!"
Version: Speckie 2.7.5
Pros
finally a spell checker that works in IE9. Iespell hasn't been updated in years. This works with 7 and it also corrects all my online posts like this one catching all my typos.
Cons
It will sometimes not light up a misspelled word and then later will.
Summary
Works, not perfect, best alternative available now.

"Best Free Download Out There!"
Version: Speckie 2.5
Pros
Works with IE9 & Windows 7. Works very well in FB. Have complained I needed this after trying Foxfire (but don't use Foxfire (viruses cost me a laptop). This is what I've been looking for. Highly recommend 4 all. Great, free, simple to use.
Cons
None. Haven't found anything to complain about at all.
Summary
Even if you are a perfect speller or typer, this program will be a dream come true. Office made me spoiled & this is the internet answer to always being correct. Love it!
