Combining media broadcast channels and media distribution under one roof, SopCast is a lightweight way to check up on streaming video that comes from sources of a possibly dubious nature.
There are three main components to the program. Live Channels are streaming television channels mostly from China, Japan, and Korea. VoD Channels are videos-on-demand, and MyServer lets you broadcast media from their computers to other SopCast users. We couldn't get the VoD options to work, but the Live Channels pulled in cartoons from China, sports from Europe, and music videos from Brazil. You can add channels to a favorites list, adjust the screen size, and more. However, refresh rates were slow, and video playback often froze.
Users can log in anonymously, or create an account--which is required to distribute your own content. Although SopCast can be fun, stability issues and the limited broadcast channels might keep it from reaching a wider audience.
Publisher's description
From SopCast :SopCast is a simple, free way to broadcast video and audio or watch the video and listen to radio on the Internet. Adopting P2P (Peer-to-Peer) technology, it is very efficient and easy to use. Let anyone become a broadcaster without the costs of a powerful server and vast bandwidth. You can build your own TV stations comparable with large commercial sites with minimal resources. Version 2.0.4 includes VoD feature.

Version: SopCast 3.0.3
"Good if you know what to do with it"
Pros: Great way to watch live sports on the internet. If you find specific streams online, this program will let you watch them in whatever media player you wish. I use it in conjunction with VLC Player to watch Stanley Cup Playoffs games.
Cons: Doesn't seem to have much out of the box utility, not very mainstream friendly. The channels you find through the program itself are mostly worthless. The player itself is kinda dumpy, but you can thankfully use it with VLC so it doesn't much matter.
Summary: It's really great for watching live sports over the net through VLC player. Outside of that I wouldn't use it for much, but that alone is such a pain point on the internet that I have to give SopCast 4 stars for at least partially solving it.

Version: SopCast 3.0.3
"Mostly used for Sports viewing"
Pros: A lightweight application and simple interface design
Cons: The channels provided in the application is unreliable.
Summary: The design of the product, I know any would agree, is too simple and monotonic.
If you can find a website with good p2p channels for viewing then this program would be useful for feeding through the links of the website -
