Version: Sony Connect (SonicStage) 3.1
"And what are you supposed to do if you've got 2 HDs"
Pros: You can (painfully) put music on your HD1 or HD3. That is the only redeeming feature
Cons: Well for me the most anoying thing is that I made the mistake of buying my wife the HD3, when I already had the HD1. However as we only have the one computer and I hate her music (conversely she hates mine) we need to be able to switch between libraries. In that way the Sony software completely sucks. Added to that it takes about 3 minutes of whirring and whining before the CD actually starts to encode into the library and you've got one piece of cack software.
I tried talking to sony support. The answer was pretty much, sorry that's the way it is.
So in summary, if you've got a computer for EVERY HD Walkman you want to manage, then you are only going to get marginally frustrated. If you have one and are tempted to buy another, forget it and buy an Ipod!

Version: Sony Connect (SonicStage) 3.1
"Software from the bad old days"
Pros: I really thought the days of software that was written so badly were long gone. I wonder if Sony does any QA on its software. I'm finding it hard to come up with a pro as every single aspect of this software is done far better by other programs unless, like me you have a Hi-MD player where you are a captive user. Please someone, write some third party software because it's crippling an otherwise fantastic product.
Cons: And now the details:
1. Importing songs into the library takes forever.
2. It has issues with many of my MP3's. It seems to be dependant on which encoder you use. I have a library of around 6200 MP3's, it completely fails to recognise about 500 of these.
3. It completely hogs system resources, especially when it's importing.
4. The library management system is archaic. It's as if MP3 V2 tags had never been invented. Extremely limited sorted capabilities and absolutely no management in terms of being able to edit tags etc.
But more than anything else it is just so dog slow, its painful to use. Granted, it is a slight improvement on the old OpenMG software (which is the worst software of any kind I have ever had the displeasure to use), but it's not a million miles away. And this is running it on an XP2500+ processor with 1GB of dual DDR ram. Not a slow machine.

Version: Sony Connect (SonicStage) 3.1
Pros: I've started porting some of my MP3 collection from my laptop onto my new network minidisc via USB. With my old non-USB minidisc player I would have had to physically record the MP3s so this is a nice function.
Cons: It's OH SO SLOW! First off it took ages to install on my (relatively fast) laptop.
I started importing my MP3 files into the media library at least an hour ago AND IT'S STILL NOT FINISHED! PLEASE HURRY UP!
It also refuses to port my old MD tracks to the media library and sometimes hangs when writing to the MD player.

Version: Sony Connect (SonicStage) 3.1
Pros: um...? err....? Pros? No, there aren't any.
Cons: The program. It's awful, often doesn't work, extraordinarily slow, painful to use, makes you want to kill, hate on a stick - but with a broken stick.
