From SmartSync Software :SmartSync Pro is a universal tool for backing up and synchronizing your important data to your local drive; external flash, USB, or ZIP drive; CD or DVD; NAS or other storage device; network volume; or even remote computer. If source data is destroyed or lost, it can easily be recovered. An intuitive wizard will help you set up what to copy, and where and when to copy it. The program replicates only new and updated files, which substantially reduces synchronization time. SmartSync Pro allows you to synchronize files and folders when computers cannot be connected over a local network. Its filtering system lets you keep synchronized only the files you need. The application has a set of built-in features, such as a task scheduler, data compression, activity logging, notification, and password protection.

"Excellent for both backing up AND restoring you critical Windows files"
Pros: When I backup my computer I am primarily interested in backing up specific files, inclucing MS Office files, MS Outlook pst files, music, pictures etc. I am equally interested in being able to restore these files, most of the time because I will install a new OS or want to install a clean OS in place of one that has become sluggish. Most other backup solutions will compress your files into a proprietary format, use incremental or differential backups, and in the end taking up more room and requiring more effort to restore your files. With SmartSync Pro your files are copied in their original format or type (i.e. MS Word documents), so restoring is as simple as using Windows Explorer, or using SmartSync Pro, of course. You can choose to use (or not use) templates to help determine what you want to backup, i.e. Outlook, or My Music files, or you can select the files yourself. SmartSync Pro checks for modified files, and copies only files which have changed. There are many other options for scheduling and notification making this both the easiest and feature full backup and restore solution I have used.
Give it a try! I think you will find its interface and features, and ease of use a welcomed departure from so many other backup/restore solutions out there!
Cons: Although this software runs on Vista (x32 for sure, anyway) I am not sure that the templates are up-to-date, so you may want to manually select your folders and files as needed. No big deal but something to be aware of.

"Best coping/synchronizing program ever. period."
Pros: Reliability, flexiable options, good reporting, and scheduling. The program works just like it should. I've used this program to synchronize terabytes of data across our lan. Most other sync programs do not support map drives or UNC paths, but smartsync does. It can send out email reports if errors occur or if you just want notifications. And its cheap unlike other solutions. Excellent, excellent program. I reccomend it to all my clients.
Cons: Does not support byte to byte processing. The "sync on folder change" only works well for the root folder and the change is not detected under subfolders.

Pros: I liked its looks and it wasn't difficult to figure out. I downloaded it because of all the great reviews and hoped I'd found what I needed at last.
Cons: My system is XP and I backed up to my usb. Files got scattered all over. Some were eventually found with other applications. I had to spend most of the day tracking everything down to make sure all the files on my C drive were still intact. Well, it helped me to decide on purchasing AISBackup.
