CNET Editors' review
Designed to compare and update multiple files at once, Smart Updater falters due to stability and performance issues. We didn't find the interface to be particularly intuitive. For instance, though we browsed our PC for two files we wanted to compare, we couldn't figure out how to initiate this process, and the meager help files were of no assistance. Once we finally figured it out, the program couldn't correctly detect exact duplicates in some instances. Smart Updater can update multiple files at once without comparing them; the Start All button updates all your chosen files simulatenously. The application contains a Task Manager, but it's watered-down compared to the one already built-in to Windows. In some tests, the program ran OK, but in others it crashed repeatedly. Advanced users who routinely update multiple files might take a quick look at this program, but more-solid alternatives are out there.Publisher's Description
From PB Software:
Smart Updater has the ability to compare two files or two directories, the original and the updated, and return only the bytes that have changed, thus creating an update file. The update file is then applied to the files with byte differences at other locations.
Smart Updater is a new technology differs from others because most update or patch programs will replace the entire file, thus resulting in a much larger update file compared to Smart Updater. Version 3.1.1 has changed link to purchase product.
What's new in this version: Version 3.1.1 adds Vista and Windows 7 compatibility.
