There are plenty of downloadable defrag utilities to choose from, but it's hard to beat the ease of use and helpful extras in IOBit's Smart Defrag.
With this utility you can quickly analyze your hard drive to check the level of defragmentation before committing to a scan. The interface shows you different colored blocks representing fragmented files, frequently used files, and more, with a helpful key to show what each colored block represents.
When you're ready to pull the trigger, you can choose from a straight defragmentation (fastest), or have Smart Defrag perform either a fast or "deep" optimization after defragmentation. Our test machine has a rather full hard drive, so even using the fast optimization took close to 40 minutes. Depending on your hard drive and level of defragmentation, your mileage may vary.
In addition to the solid defragmentation tools, you can have Smart Defrag automatically defrag the files you use the most without significantly slowing down your system. Even while performing a full defragmention and optimization run, the program barely uses as much as 25MB of RAM, and with just the auto-defrag running continually, it uses about half that amount.
Smart Defrag offers a few extras, including a scheduler so you can set it up to only defrag during downtime on your computer. You can set it to run scans on bootup or even have the app shut down your computer when it's done defragging selected hard drives or partitions.
It's important to note that Smart Defrag is not as essential for those running Windows 7 because the OS defrags continually on it's own. But if you run external drives connected to a Windows 7 computer, this utility will still come in handy for keeping them running smoothly.
Overall, if you want a quick and solid defrag utility to make your computer run more smoothly, with added options for scheduling and other extras, you should definitely download this program. Both beginner and advanced users will have no trouble operating this solid utility.

Summary
If this software doesn't think that I need to defrag an auxiliary hard drive, it will ignore my commands to do so anyway and defrag the main HD instead. Hence, the relatively low rating.

Has both free and paid upgrade version. Would recommend either! free version works just fine for all you freeware users. Paid version Digs a little deeper to resolve the problems, well worth it in both free and paid version. Perfectly safe too use, in either version. Light on the system seemingly, problem free, will not remove any important data or programming that is essential, only the crap that bogs ya down. Wish i could say the same for glary utilities, but can't!! feel free to enjoy it, does a good job!!

Iv'e used both paid and free versions for over 2 almost 3 years now. I run a windows 7, 64 bit system, with all kinds of software installed, this program does not disagree with any other software I've ever used or are still using. Well worth checking out!! This is a nifty software that does its job automatically if you set it to auto fragment. It's very easy to understand, with engaging graphics to show you the defragmentation in progress, and super fast. Works much better than the MS native defragmenter.

You can man. start the Defrag or you can set the config to do an automatic Defrag or you can config to do a boot time Defrag. It really has a bit of options you can use for a free download program. All of this works very well.
Cons
Along with all the options above, all this is being done in the background while you are using your computer. It really helps out on your start up time and operatating run time also. My machine seems to opperate a bit smoother and faster.

So far so good as a utility...

... but, all of a sudden, Yahoo! took over my Firefox searches. I found an Iobit toolbar in Programs via Control Panel, which I may have agreed to install as part of the protection offered. But - I did NOT agree to let Yahoo! hijack my searches. VERY UNETHICAL, especially considering the type of software this is. This malware was installed by a company called Spigot (common files/spigot). I tried removing the search via the drop-down where the searches are listed, and repeatedly changed my default search to Google in about:config, but Yahoo! kept coming back. Once I uninstalled the Iobit toolbar, all was right again. I had to manually delete the Soigot folder. Shame on you Iobit!!
Summary
I'll keep the utility, but ETHICS and HONESTY should make Iobit remove Spigot malware from the toolbar install. That is, unless they already benefited financially from it, at our expense. But, maybe this is the only way they could give it to us free? Call the other companies and ask how they do it. I also downloaded Advanced SystemCare from Iobit, so it could have been either.
