As its name suggests, SitePopularity is a program that allows users to check a specific Web site's ranking using top ranking systems. It comes with two trial restrictions, but we found that it still managed to perform well during our tests.
The user interface is extremely easy to navigate. Large, self-explanatory command buttons reside at the top of the window, and URLs are listed in the main window, along with their ranking among such ranking sites as Google Pagerank, Alexa Traffic Rank, and Altavista. Novices will especially appreciate the wizard that walks you through the process of entering the URLs and selecting the ranking sites you want to include. As soon as we clicked OK, the program immediately went to work, and in a matter of seconds, we had ranking info for each site that we entered. The program does come with trial limitations that prevent you from entering more than 10 URLs and from saving your findings. Regardless, we were able to get a very clear picture on how well the program performs.
For such a hefty price tag, we would have liked to have seen more detailed explanations of how to read the ranking numbers. The publisher's Web site, which contains an FAQ-style Help page, does offer a few brief explanations, but we would have liked more information. Still, with such a solid performance, we recommend SitePopularity as a viable ranking program that anyone can use.
SitePopularity will check any number of Web sites for the most important ranking criteria such as Google Pagerank, Alexa Traffic Rank, Dmoz listing, and links from other Web sites. It uses the largest search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, and AlltheWeb to only get you reliable quality results. The program supports several advanced features such as URL extraction which extracts all of the links from an URL that you have added to the list.
