You'll feel a bit safer searching the Web using this Firefox extension, but it doesn't provide in-depth security information. SiteHound for Firefox requires that you set up an account before using the program, including your name and e-mail address.
After installing a simple bar on top of your browser window, the program automatically downloads a database of potential malware sites. The database stores the attributes of any given site based on reports made by other users, along with its own security experts. You can also report suspected sites for analysis. We were pleased with the program's ability to block potentially unsafe sites with its own password-protected warning page. It provides basic site information such as the URL, site owner, IP address, and the country of origin, but unlike similar apps, it lacks any sort of report of the sites' threats or links to other suspected sites.
However, overall, this is an effective extension for Firefox users in search of basic protection for avoiding unfavorable sites.
Publisher's description
From Firetrust :SiteHound for Firefox protects you and your computer from phasing, scams, spyware, adware, security risks, viruses, and objectionable content while you surf the Web. SiteHound is a prevention tool to stop you getting infected or being vulnerable to Internet threats in the first place.
With SiteHound, when you browse the Internet, you're shown a warning page every time you go to a site, which is a known scam, potentially loads viruses or spyware on to your computer, has questionable content or anything you would not consider reasonable. You are only warned about the dangers of the site, but not actually prevented from visiting the site if you want to visit it.
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

Version: SiteHound for Firefox 2.0
Pros: Good solid protection, Sitehound blocks sites before you even reach them.
Cons: Starting up your browser takes longer because Sitehound is starting up/checking for updates
Also adds a toolbar to your browser - but is easily removed
In the free version you get too many messages in places saying that if you register (and pay) you get extra options and features
