Publisher's Description
From Angus Johnson:
Simple Sudoku makes high quality puzzles that are symmetrical, have a single solution, and do not require trial & error to solve. The user can also choose between five levels of complexity - from Easy to Extreme. Each puzzle is generated randomly so there is an almost limitless selection.
Not only does Simple Sudoku make challenging puzzles, it also provides tools to help solve them - removing the drudgery but not the fun. Keeping track of possible values for blank cells (candidates), providing filters and color markers are just some of the tools available to make solving even those really tricky puzzles possible. Also, if you ever get really stuck, Simple Sudoku can get you started again with a discrete hint (without giving everything away).

"Fine Sudoku player"
Version: Simple Sudoku 4.1z
Pros
Simple Sudoku has the nicest interface of any of the Sudoku players I have seen. It is easy to use, either with automatically generated games of several levels of difficulty, library games, or your own entry of games from any source. It provides a number of useful aids for revealing patterns that can be helpful in solving a puzzle, all user selectable as you prefer
Cons
It appears that the program is no longer being maintained or developed. In one respect this is okay as it seems to run without defect. On the other hand there are a couple of annoyances. First is that the highlighting of candidate cells by darker or lighter boundaries provides insufficient differentiation and can be difficult to clearly distinguish. While many display characteristics can be set by the user, this one can't. Second is that there are only 4 colors available for cell coloring. On occasion 5 or more are needed to unambiguously color the grid for candidate tracking. However, neither item is a show stopper as there are work-arounds.
Summary
Best of many Sudoku programs in spite of its age.
