The only thing this speed-optimization program does fast is crash, and it does that nearly every time it's launched. SilverSoft Speed's unimpressive interface has a minimize button but it won't resize. It remains at full screen with pixelated images of its other software titles along the right and a basic menu with enormous text-only links.
The options are minimal and include Settings, Game Speed, Load, and Unload. There are three options in settings: Fast, Super Fast, and Ultra Fast. Super Fast option is checked by default, but there's a not-very-reassuring note that it should be used carefully as some programs may not respond. The Ultra Fast notation is even more alarming, as it indicates your system might stop functioning. This last warning proved to be true for all settings. As soon as we opened the interface from the system tray icon and switched settings, the program crashed in most instances, regardless of which setting was selected. The few times it did work, there was no discernible increase in speed. The Game Speed interface is even less attractive than the main window, and has two check boxes to increase or decrease game speed. You have to enter a percentage as well, which proved to be a waste of time. There was no change when any number was entered, from slowest to fastest. We were hard pressed to think of an instance when gamers would ever want to opt for the slowest percentage setting. Oddly, even if no changes were made, you had to hit the Load button before closing the interface. Since it automatically stops as soon as the interface is pulled up from the system tray icon, there doesn't seem to be a reason for the Unload button.
The nag screen proved to be the least annoying thing about this faulty demo program. It isn't well-designed, from its interface to its functionality. Skip it and find another way to boost system speed.
