Budding spies and concerned parents could do worse than with this all-in-one system monitoring application. Silent Eyes Computer Monitor's silver-and-gray interface offers all the round corner goodness so common in older programs. Most button functions are duplicated in the common pull-down menu toolbar.

Operating the app is just a matter of setting options, starting the spying, and returning to read a log at your leisure. The usual screen capture component is easy to set for save interval, but users can't set the image size limit. Programs started and Web sites visited are also captured to the encrypted log file. A keylogger saves strokes in an easy-to-read format, though they're not always clear in the program's Playback feature. That feature gives users a close up view of all keystrokes, screen captures, and other saved date. The items play on a tab of the program though, and not in the original windows.

Silent Eyes Computer Monitor offers a simple feature to email logs, but recipients must have the app to understand the file. Stealth mode isn't on by default, although this necessary feature is easily activated. If the look isn't important, and you don't mind viewing playback on a small tabbed window, this app deserves the short 7-day test.
