Although the program fails to automatically store messages left for you, it effectively keeps your PC secure against trespassers. Offering several user provisions, Sentry's easy-to-use interface is accessible via its system-tray icon. These include options for security, activity logging, and aesthetic pleasantries. We like that users get to customize their own away messages and change font and background colors. We found that the program can automatically start, though you can kick it off with a hot key or a click at the tray icon. When active, it displays a lock screen and all common access hot keys are disabled. A particularly handy feature is that others can leave you messages while you're away, and you can read them after unlocking your PC. Changing the settings and disabling the program requires a master password, so unless someone knows your password, no one can deactivate the program or read your messages. What's more, Sentry runs at start-up, so even when the PC reboots, the app still remains operational. Unfortunately, posted messages aren't automatically saved. Nonetheless, the level of security and functionality that Sentry brings to the table makes it ideal for security-minded users.Publisher's description
From Fresh Software :Sentry locks down your computer on demand so it stays secure when you aren't using it. No other programs can be opened, no browser history can be snooped at, and nobody will be touching your files while you're gone. You can customize the appearance of your screen while Sentry is running, and have your favorite screen savers run within the program. It can even take messages from people who dropped by your workstation while you were away. Sentry can launch from a system tray icon, a global hotkey, or after your computer has been idle (no keyboard/mouse input) for a certain amount of time. The Sentry2Go feature lets you copy the program to removable media such as a floppy disk, USB flash drive, or CD-rom, allowing you to quickly lock any public workstation you may be using.
Version 2.52 adds Multi Monitor support, User's Manual in HTML format, Sentry2Go feature to bring the program with you, and lock any public workstation.
