This handy utility enhances the functionality of Windows' Task Manager by warning you about potential system threats.
Upon launch, Security Task Manager automatically scans your PC to find all running programs. It then displays information about each application in a sortable list, including name, CPU usage, size, manufacturer, and risk factor. Highlighting each entry gives you more detailed data on running processes, including a description of what it does and how much of a threat it poses to your system. If Security Task Manager finds a potentially malevolent program, you can remove or quarantine it.
Especially handy is the feature that automatically searches Google for information about a specific program with a single click. Though it doesn't offer a wide range of features, this program will be useful to those looking for an extra layer of system protection.
Publisher's description
From A. & M. Neuber Software :Security Task Manager displays detailed information about all running processes (applications, DLLs, BHOs, and services). For each process, it improves on Windows Task Manager, providing a security risk rating, a process description, file path, CPU usage graph, start time, embedded hidden functions (for example keyboard monitoring, autostart entry, and browser supervision or manipulation), and process type, such as visible window, systray program, DLL, and IE plug-in. The security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware, a Trojan, or keylogger. It also deletes traces of your Internet and computer activity, prevents keyboard input monitoring, and warns you when the registry is changed. This process viewer also recognizes stealth processes and virtual driver software hidden from the Windows Task Manager.
Version 1.7g comes with Faster BHO scan, better Windows Vista and unicode languages support. The "icn_12341 access denied" error on start up was fixed.

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7g
Pros: It's inexpensive and details what you need to know.
Cons: I have no cons at this time.
Summary: I have yet to run this but reading other peoples' experiences, I downloaded it from here, scanned the download with our work's Trend Micro Antivirus software and it was laced with trojan horses and cookies. I decided to go to the software company's... read more >>

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7g
Pros: I loved what it did and what it promised to do. It said it would identify drivers that were not compatible with your OS; it has a spy program, it dissables spying programs in your mouse and keyboard..yada yada ya....then i read the negative reviews:
Cons: If it was only Avast ID'ing it I would let it go. Avast is bad but read the reviews + URL: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=319526&messageID=2923765.
Cnet misled us with : Version tracker pro that won't uninstall .Summary: It seems great unless your antivirus alarm goes off during installation. Be sure and investigate this one on your own. There is something fishy going on for sure. And disregard Cnet's software policy. They are starting to let things slip by, and in ... read more >>

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7g
Pros: None. How can I say something positive if I just finishing the download my antivirus BitDefender said that it was infected with "Dropped:gene..."???
Cons: Do not download it. You are advised. See above. If www.download.com says that they take the security seriously why can we download this bit of malware?

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7g
"Trojan appeared in hidden folder after installation."
Pros: I liked that it offered information on what each task was doing, and where it came from.
Cons: There were entries Windows' Task Manager that DID NOT show up in this program.
Summary: Immediately after installation, my Avast antivirus deteced a trojan in my Local Settings/Application Data folder, which is -not my my system, though- hidden folder.
Don't download this software. -
