It's not as easy to use as some encryption tools, but that's likely to be the least of your worries. This program's bigger flaw is a failure to consistently recognize passwords.
SecureZip's main interface is fairly easy to understand, but becomes increasingly more complex with each action. A wizard is available to create, edit and extract archives, but it doesn't simplify the process as much as we'd expected. There seemed to be minimal differences between using the wizard and just clicking the Add icon. Either way, you browse for files or folders and add them to an archive, then enter a password if desired. Each follows several windows, which seems unnecessarily complex considering that some of the options aren't integrated with the process. For example, if you want to select the encryption algorithm, you'll have to go to the Options panel. Being able to select this from the wizard would make more sense.
The program's biggest flaw is found when trying to open archives. First of all, we weren't happy that password protection wasn't applied to the whole archive. If you select a zipped archive, it will open, displaying the files it contains. Click one of the files and a dialog box opens asking for the password, which means you'll have to unlock each file individually. That is, if the password works. For our testers, the password only was accepted if we opened the archive through SecureZip. Each time our testers selected an archive from a directory, an error message was returned stating that the password was incorrect.
Overall, there are a number of encryption files that are more user-friendly and flexible. And SecureZIP's password-recognition problems are a deal breaker.
