You won't find absolute perfection in this free desktop app for streaming Internet Radio, but you will find a mess of language options, preset stations, and a few extra functions stuffed into a very light, fast app. For casual listeners, the combination will be just right. Not every preset station will be a success--we found that many URLs lead to a Web site, not to a stream. If that's the case, you can follow the link from Screamer Radio, do a little searching around the site, and manually enter the URL. Unfortunately, there's no way to edit the global library for everyone's benefit.
As for the perks, you're looking at two sound effects, saving favorite stations (but not songs,) and audio recording--you'll be able to easily open the Recordings folder from the app interface. With Screamer Radio, you'll also be able to mute audio and do some manual configuring. It's a great deal for those looking for ease of use and an easy way to experiment with new stations and sounds in a set-it-and-forget-it format. If you're looking for more advanced features like visualizers, saving individual songs, and socializing, however, this isn't the radio app for you.

Version: Screamer Radio 0.3.6
"Free recorder of all kinds of streams including OGG, AAT & many popular formats"
Pros: A very small, non-intrusive simple to use program that allows you to record any kind of stream. I wanted an OGG Vorbis recorder that can convert it to MP3 while recording and this program does it. Most importantly, it is FREE. Quality is great and works fine running in the background. Put it to the test for days in a row. Allows you to add favorite stations besides the list it has (international list) of internet streams. It records any stream from anywhere. Impressive. And did I mention it is FREE ??
Cons: Two things that I noticed. one is that from time to time, it automatically changes the assigned bit rate for MP3 coversion while recording to a higher bit rate. The second is the problem with adding favorites. I will have to work into solving that issue.

"A nifty little radio recording program."
Pros: I got this little program free on a magazine cd and have had it for a few days now. It comes with a good selection of radio programmes and these cover virtually all musical genres. The ace in the pack for me though is the ability to record these radio stations at the click of a button! And, its freeeee! Yeehaw! The station presets onboard (which it updates automatically), are of varying sound quality, but youll easily be able to find plenty to make a decent cd out of if you wanna burn em or copy to mp3 player etc. Its non-obtrusive, installed quickly and easily, and DOES have its own support page detailed inside. Not bad at all methinks.
Cons: Initially i was getting a message saying windows explorer couldnt find the path "saved" everytime I tried to click the programs "open the containing folder" to check my recordings. When I manually searched for it (should be in your program files> screamer> saved folder), i discovered that my recordings were all there so i simply made a desktop shortcut for the folder, which made things much easier (you may need to do this too). Apart from that everything seems ok. The programmer admits on the support page that its complicated to try and record stations not included as presets (though it can be done). I dont really care to be honest. Theres enough onboard to keep me amused for a long while yet.

Version: Screamer Radio 0.3.6
Pros: Everything the programm has to do, does it fine. Not more, not less.
Cons: Only the separation could be better, but i guess this not a weekness of the software, but of the Stream transmitters, which indicate their next radio titles a few seconds before the change.

Version: Screamer Radio 0.3.6
Pros: First of all, you cannot beat the price. It does what it is meant to do and records the songs separate, which makes it user friendly.
Cons: minor flaws where found. Not that many stations listed. I wanted to record the music was listening via another program but was not able to figure it out. A help menu (how to) would be great. However.... It is free, so good job.

Version: Screamer Radio 0.3.6
Pros: 1. Very lightweight, very easy to install and use, no install issues, and the program is less than 1mb installed and starts immediately.
2. Geeks will love this; under the File menu item, you will find Edit Config. Go to town, I haven't messed w/ it yet but that's in the near future I'm sure.
3. Comes with preset stations but lets you play urls; I've only checked out one so far, but it was streamed at 160k.
4. It lets you record non-copyrighted streams, and has a fully configurable save setting, letting you set the Path to Recording Folder, File Pattern (with a few variables), String formatting. The preset I tried worked great with this.
I also used it for Ministry of Sound so the recording was disabled, but it still played just fine, and that's really what I was after.
Reasons I tried this app:
1. My MIL asked for a program that could record streamed audio. I typically use the Roxio SpinDoctor on my other computer, but don't know if they even support that anymore. Plus it takes about 5 clicks to get to the recorder, and bogs down pretty bad.
2. I just purchased the Omnifi setup, so I have to use the SimpleCenter software that came with it. SimpleCenter will not play .asx streams, so I went hunting and found Screamer.
Cons: I can't believe how simple this is, yet how configurable it is at the same time. The only negative thing I could say so far is this, and it's a stretch:
My MIL may have issues with the variables, just because the % signs may scare her. That being said, if you take half a second and don't freak out, there are very simple yet complete instructions and demos on the same page - don't even have to click help. I'm amazed.
I'm going to try running a stream and record overnight and see if I can make the thing crash. I guess if it can't record 8 hours of audio straight through, that would be a complaint? Not really...
