Drive, as an electronic device, or as a combination of mechanics and electronics, is performed by its absolute physical speed and data put rate. On the other hand, any a drive is connected on a system, and the optimum algorithm as a more economical approach to the best possible on-system performance is widely used. Whence, SciMark Standard Drives is forcing drives to run on the operating system level, in order to see how fast it could be. There would be a large file made, but nothing will be more than write and read.

Version 2005.04.22 revised the algorithm and then it could be good to measure the throughout of all kinds of drives.
