CNET Editors' review
SOS Online Backup is aimed at people interested in their computer's security. Users can save important files to an Internet server so that if anything is lost or stolen, these files can be retrieved. While some users reported issues during the installation process, the program worked well overall.
This program gives users an opportunity to take their most precious information--music, pictures, and so on--and store them remotely. The big draw to this program is its capability to restore these files anywhere on any computer. By quickly setting up a profile with a username and password, any computer with the SOS Online Backup software is ready. The interface is fairly easy to follow, with large command buttons for key actions, like restoring a backup or creating one.
Users simply search through a file tree and select entire folders or individual files they wish to store. Once selected, the files are easily shipped to their online destination and a meter at the bottom tells how much of the space is still available.
There's a short 14-day trial and a limit on storage space with the demo version, but that should be more than adequate to see if SOS Online Backup will meet your storage needs. Some testers reported issues when trying to create their accounts, but these glitches were resolved with a second attempt. We recommend this program to any users who travel frequently or need access to their files from multiple computers.

"No disc image backup. Automatic annual billing."
Version: SOS Online Backup 4.7.1
Pros
None that I can see.
Cons
Immediately after signing up on the intro priced offer, I realized that I could not BU the disc image (in 2010) so I just forgot about using the site. They sneaked by me a bill for 79.95 in 2011, but I caught a second billing in 2012. I called "sales" and they told me to call "accounts". I called accounts and they told me to go online and email them. Why email "accounts" when I was talking to them! I gave up and just called my credit card company and they said they would contest the charge and issue me a credit.
Summary
Don't go there.

"HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, TERRIBLE COMPANY"
Version: SOS Online Backup 4.7.1
Pros
THERE IS NO PRO TO USING THIS COMPANY
PRO FOR THEM IS THAT THEY GET ONE STAR FOR FREE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T RATE IT AS 0.Cons
1. Never worked.
2. Still billed months after canceling.
3. SOS is unresponsive to requests to stop billing on canceled account.
4. Being emailed daily about declined payment due to expired CC.Summary
So, to recap: They couldn't get it to work on my computer. They canceled my service and continued to charge me, and when my card expired they began to send me a daily notification that their payment was being declined for a service I canceled months ago and never used. By the way, when I tried to log into my account while they were still charging me I couldn't log in because it said my account was canceled. It's interesting that the billing dept. doesn't have that information.

"Glad with the purchase"
Version: SOS Online Backup 4.7.1
Pros
good support
works in the background
can setup time for backupsCons
bad first impression - got unknown error the first time I tried to log in
error messages not clear (support then showed me how to read the error messages from the logs)Summary
I did some research before buying SOS. Based on good reviews from PC Mag and CNET, I purchased SOS. Purchase process went smoothly and when I tried to log into SOS after downloading it, I received an error called "Unknown Error". I didn't understand what that meant. I quickly contacted support and guess what they fixed it quickly. Not a great way to start, but I think the kind of support they provide, I was happy that I purchased SOS.

"Horrible Plus Bad Customer Service Plus Won't Refund"
Version: SOS Online Backup 4.7.1
Pros
Fairly good interface
Cons
Froze, locked up all computers I tried it on about 2x a day, bad customer service, had to conduct a VISA dispute to get my money back.
Summary
I signed up for SOS after Mozy raised it's pricing and after CNET gave a good review to SOS. Ultimately I tried on several machines; Vista and Windows 7. No luck getting it to run successfully on any machine.
I worked back and forth with Customer Service trying to get it to work without success.
Backup was incredibly slow. It would have taken 28 days to back up my 50gigs of data. About twice a day, it would lock up and stop working. Only solution to get it to restart was to reboot machine.
I signed up for a residential account and it always showed I had a business account.
And the worse part was, when I tried to get a refund after using it for 5 days, it was always promised, never received back to my VISA card. After 17 days of waiting for the refund, I finally had to file a VISA dispute which I won.
