"Best of class"
Version: Rumpus 7.1.1
Pros
Beautifully programmed, high speed, low drag. Support is excellent, and your suggestions are welcomed.
Cons
Server only runs on Mac, which might be be a pro in some books. Clients can be of any operating system.
Summary
I've tried several different FTP/File transfer solutions and this one is the absolute best. Stone reliable and super easy to mange. I constantly have clients and consultants ask me what software is it that I use and they've been through the same frurstrations I went through. You can manage the accounts through the web interface or through the mgmt app, so it is possible to manage it somewhat via a windows machine. The dropship feature is fantastic, as we have a limitation for email enclosures. Frankly the only alternative to Rumpus is to use a hosted service, which can be extremely expensive when you hit bandwidth limits. Many others in our industry (architecture) use full featured project management systems as glorified file transfer services. They cost a fortune and usually require an FTE to manage. Rumpus is simple, fast and easy for you to manage.

Summary
Rumpus is the best software I have ever used, and I don't mean just server software, I mean the best of any software I've ever used. It is easy to set up and to administer. Most importantly it just runs and runs. I've been using Rumpus since 2007 and the server has never failed to function properly. Updates are seamless, just click and you're done. The same goes for their incredibly awesome support, better than anyone else. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars I wish I could give Rumpus 10.

"Absolutely Great Software!!!!!!"
Version: Rumpus 5.3.9
Summary

Been using Rumpus for over a year now, and it just works. Very easy to set up. I've never had a problem, it's never unexpectedly quit. Technical support is fantastic, and they are continuously fine tuning the product as they come out with updates every few months. I enthusiastically recommend Rumpus to beginner or expert without hesitation. -
"Simply Brilliant"

The ongoing Updates to this product are a sign of the fantastic support that is offered, NOT a sign of any 'faults' just great customer service. Unlike other companies that keep you waiting 18 months for a fix (guess who that is!!) Maxum respond and supply updates swiftly, without ever breaking the product. Amazing IMO. A leading example of development, support and fair pricing. -
"fine application, but..."
Version: Rumpus 5.2

Ok, this really does pack a lot of features and is quite easy to use, but the price seems really out of line considering there are alternatives which, for most users, will perform at least as well. The only advantage this has over CrushFTP is that it is indeed very much less resource heavy, but if you haven't got a lot of concurrent users, this won't be a problem and in terms of features and ease of use they are virtually equal. If what you're really looking for is a very thorough web interface, you should check out hotscripts.com where you will find several incredibly full featured and flexible perl cgi scripts you can use with your http server, and even include various security and user and directory control features, without the need to run another server on additional ports. One of these could easily be used in conjuntion with a standard UNIX FTP server, for example Pure-FTP which has at least two different and easy to use GUI frontends available for the Mac. As I said, this is great software but just way too much money - even without mentioning the strangely rigid licensing scheme tied not just to concurrent connections, but also to user accounts. -

"Solid Performer-Highly Recommended"
Version: Rumpus 5.0.7
Summary

I run a publishing company and, quite often, our external editors and authors need to download galleys and other large PDF files. Because of the wide range of computer skills among these individuals, having a file transfer application that is easy to use and web based is valuable for my company.
Rumpus installation, set up, and administration was pretty easy. I found a few aspects of the interface a bit counter intuitive, but I was able to resolve any issues without turning to the manual :)
The user's web interface is very easy to understand and use. I have not had a single complaint from a user.
One nice aspect of this application is that it allows me to shut off all FTP services and related ports for FTP on our firewall (yes, I know, SFTP would have been an option, but it would have added additional complexity for a group of external users who were having enough trouble as it was). This is a nice boost to our server's security. -
"A reissue"

I recently made a mistake and gave a lower start then I wanted to . I had said that Rumpus is a good FTP server, The Developer is nice, helpful. The program is $$$$ for what it does. I switched to Pureftp as it is free, seems to do more, SFTP, FTP, SSH. everything. looks nice. Does not have a webfile manager thought. But has about everything else. the one thing Rumpus is missing. is that it does not have a button for creating a Certif. the dev. is very hard on this, as he said it will be coming.. As for now. to create a certif. you have to dive in to the terminal. I guess is you are a nerd or like using the terminal, it is cool. but for 299 it should have a way to create a certif and use it.. PureFTP , one buttone create and used all in one click. awesome. I mean with security being important why would the dev, ewant to make people dive into the terminal. heck it took me 10 sec with Pureftp and it is secure. Rumpus with the instructions on how to make in the terminal. 5 min. copy paste. then he never mentioned what or where to find the certif or which one to use.. So for now I will give 4 stars for this. as I think in a world where security is so important this should be a first concern.. other then that it is a nice program works pretty well. but if you do not need the webfile manager and are not a terminal person and rich, well check out PureFTP, its free and works just as well. I think the price is also a little high, but I bought mine so I feel I can at least say what I THINK. maybe it will also help someone else. all in all a good app, -
