Publisher's description
From Wieser Software :RIP Vinyl is a direct to disk recorder that allows you to record from any audio source on your sound card, and produce WAV or MP3 files, which can then be burned onto a CD-R or iPod for your own personal use while away from home. The software automatically detects tracks using parameters you configure, and can record a 78 on a 45 RPM player. In addition, it automatically discards tracks shorter than a threshold.
It includes features to allow you to schedule recordings, and break tracks after a fixed time, to aid transfer of books on tape. The software compresses to disk while recording. Compression is done via Microsoft's Audio Compression Manager and can use any ACM codec that is licensed for encoding. The software includes a peak VU meter.
Version 3.4 automatically enables Media Player 10 MP3 encoder for use with RIP Vinyl if present, and is now compatible with Windows Vista.

Version: Rip Vinyl 3.4
"does a good job, but not for what it is intended."
Pros: I use it for live recording since it will break at pauses. Creates a new file, so if something goes wrong, you only lose from the crash on. Previous stuff is safe.
Cons: Uses silence between tracks to break into different files. If you set sensitivity high enough that it doesn't cut off end fade-outs, it retriggers on noise and doesn't make new tracks.

Version: Rip Vinyl 3.4
Pros: I have been a registered RIP Vinyl user since November 2002 and have recorded many 78s @ 45rpm with outstanding results. People ask me why I don't use Adobe Audition to record my 78s and I tell them I prefer RIP Vinyl in that it does not hog my computer's resources like AA does. Thanks to Anthony Wieser for this superlative application.
