Version: Restorer2000 Data Recovery Software 2.0
"Don't waste your money on this crap: The demo does the same as the full version"
Pros: I downloaded the demo version of this program because I was attempting to recover some files off of a formatted drive. The program actually found the files and I was able to recover files less than 64KB. So, I decided to purchase the full version. In fact, the claim on their website specifically states:
"The Restorer2000 Standard NTFS 2.0 recovers deleted files from valid NTFS logical disk / partitions and doesn't give you ability to restore data from FAT partitions or any formatted HD, damaged and corrupted partitions."
NOTE: the words "formatted HD"
Cons: Guess what. The full version did the same as the demo. So, I wrote the company and informed them that I could not restore files that were greater than 64KB. And, here was their response:
"It depends what kind of operation are you trying to perform. With Standard versions you can recover files from existing file
structure only. If you need to scan the drive and recover files from recognized partitions you need Professional version. You can upgrade on "Insert where-where-to-buy URL here"
With Standard version you can recover any file which does not require scanning of the drive to be found. Recovering from existing file structure does not require scanning, just use 'Open Drive Files'
command in 'Drive' menu. If you need to scan the drive and recover files from recognized partitions you need Professional version (which also provides support for both file system types).
This is clearly false advertising. Don't waste your money on the full version when you get the same benefits from the demo.

Version: Restorer2000 Data Recovery Software 2.0
Pros: My Maxtor Hard Drive would not boot the system. I called Maxtor and they advised downloading the Powermax utility. Powermax said there were no hard drives in the computer at all!! Aside from loosing all my important data, I could not even format the drive to try to reinstall Windows XP. Something about sector 48 missing. Download.com was my next move - and then downloading the demo version of Restorer 2000. It immediately recognized the corrupt drive and I was able to retrieve the small files right away, just as advertised! I purchased the Professional version and within minutes I had all my files back! The drive itself is unusable and had to be sent back to Maxtor for replacement under their warranty. If you want your data back - this is the way to go!
Cons: None that I could find.

Version: Restorer2000 Data Recovery Software 2.0
"Excellent, well worth the money"
Pros: This is the third programme I tried and the one that worked the best. Win XP suddenly refused to read my USB flash drive, saying that the drive was unformatted. I had lots of data on that drive.
This programme was able to recover not only my 'lost' files, but also those that I had previously already transferred and deleted from the drive.
It marked the deleted files so that I could easily identify which ones were my recovered 'lost' files.
It also recovered all files with their original filenames intact, which made for easy identification. (Another software I tried stripped the filenames)
Excellent. I was able to get back everything I needed. All types of documents -- Word, Excel, zip, .jpg, Powerpoint, applications (.exe), text (.txt). Highly recommend this progamme! As another reviewer said, the $30 is worth it!

Version: Restorer2000 Data Recovery Software 2.0
"Dropping $30 just saved us thousands"
Pros: The 80GB Seagate HD began acting up; while in the middle of backing up info to the external HD, the main HD went boom.... BIOS wouldn't even recognize the drive's existence. Installed new HD, BIOS now can see old HD (now slaved) but ten years of work is now 'missing' or inaccessable. Keep in mind, these files --- primarily .docs and image files --- are how we make a living.
Downloaded the demo, ta-da: the files are recoverable. Damn right the $30 license fee for the software is worth it to us!
***** To the nay-sayers and their low opinion of this software:
- If you install the software on the same HD that's crapping out on you, well DUH... Of course it's not going to work.
- "The demo only lets you save tiny files!" Go dial 1 (800) WAA-AAAH, cheapskates! Thirty bucks is too much money to rescue your data? I guess your data wasn't worth much of anything to begin with. Sheesh, the point of the demo version is so you can find out if the files are recoverable or not to begin with.... BEFORE you buy the software. I consider that a damn sweet courtesy.
***** Hmm... Excluding major head crashes, you have two choices: dropping hundreds on a data recovery service, or buying this software. Boy, there's a puzzler, eh?
Cons: For such a worthwhile product, the company's website sure is ugly.

Version: Restorer2000 Data Recovery Software 2.0
"It Did the job it was supposed to do!!"
Pros: Simple to use and fast: I was having a failure with one of my drives, Windows was not able to find the drive, I tried at lest 6 other programs, this was the best one, It found all my lost files and it was able to rebuild all the directories.
