CNET Editors' review
Registry Mechanic checks your Registry for errors that can slow down and crash your computer, and provides you with a full toolbox for finding and repairing your Registry. The utility can find a wide range of defects, including references to uninstalled programs, missing help files and virtual devices, broken shortcuts, and removed fonts and configuration files. It also can automatically repair invalid entries at Windows start-up.
Under Optimize, the Quick Scan has been abandoned in this version in favor of an exceedingly fast and comprehensive Deep Scan. The program also makes backups, so it's easy to restore a fix gone wrong. There's a Registry defragger, and a Tuneup Services option that optimizes Windows boot services. Click on either Recommended or Minimal to see which services will be toggled, and to customize them. The Monitor tab tracks your system's Registry, services, and performance behaviors, while the Windows Tools section contains a series of links to Windows' default tools. This could be better explained, but choose an option and you'll find out soon enough that these tools are the default ones that come with Windows, but collected in one place. The interface isn't bad, but it feels a bit jumbled, and presents a lot of open white space without clear directions for what the user should do.
The stringent restrictions on the trial version make it difficult to analyze the effectiveness of the program. The trialware allows for only five sections of the registry to be repaired, and the compacter, defrag, and system optimization buttons were also hamstrung. During the trial, we recommend deselecting all of the errors discovered, and then carefully choosing which errors you think you can verify as being repaired to see if you want to purchase it. Registry Mechanic is a good program, but you won't get something for nothing here.
Registry Mechanic:Publisher's Description
From PC Tools:
Registry Mechanic is an advanced registry cleaner for Windows that can safely clean and repair problems with your registry in a few simple mouse clicks. Easily fix problems with the Windows registry that are a common cause of crashes and errors. By using a registry cleaner regularly and fixing your registry your system should not only be more stable but it will also help Windows and your software run faster. Registry Mechanic uses a high-performance detection algorithm to quickly identify missing and invalid references in your Windows registry. These problems can occur for many reasons including being left-behind after the un-installation or incorrect removal of software, by missing or corrupt hardware drivers, or orphaned startup programs. With a few easy steps Registry Mechanic will scan your entire registry for any invalid entries and provides a list of the registry errors found, you can then choose to selectively clean each item or automatically repair them all. For your convenience and protection Registry Mechanic can also make a backup of any repairs made so that you can easily recover any changes if required.
What's new in this version: Version 11.0.277 includes unspecified updates.

"Registry Mechanic Was A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing."
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Bleaching the hard drive free space was one of the only few features i loved about this software.
Cons
Like a lot of registry software, Registry Mechanic deletes too much.
Summary
I payed for Registry Mechanic and i was pleased with it at first, Then came the problems. I was the click happy type so i do take responsibility but, I trusted this software. I would scan and click fix on what ever it found. Then the error messages started up. I was deleting things that my computer needed to run properly. Important service pack files had been deleted, My system eventually slowed down to a crawl. Restore points didn't help at all, and my built in windows system restore feature know longer worked. It was just one problem after the next, My documents folder, Windows services folder, all corrupt. The last straw was when i decided to bleach the hard drive free space and at the half way point, I got a message from windows stating that i didn't have enough memory to complete the task system restart. After restart i got the dreaded blue screen of death. I then had to order recovery cd's from the Manufacturer because so many files were missing when i tried to perform my own system recovery hitting f10 on my keyboard. Its best to leave the registry alone, But as someone else stated below CCleaner registry cleaner is the safest.

"Used it for years, no trouble."
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Works as advertized but I let my subscription expire. Still works great.
Cons
Doesn't "over clean". It won't get rid of things your system needs. (Beware of CCleaner. It will delete your start-up sounds on XP).
Summary
Can't go wrong. I bought this originally in 2005. Works great.

"Will Not recommend"
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Clears most of the Issues.
Cons
I purchased this SW after seeing the initial results. I paid for 2 years and when I did not renew the second time, the SW stopped working. No valid reason when I contacted support. I will not recommend if you want to protect your money. Use a freeware like CCleaner Instead.. Works as well and free.
Summary
Pathetic customer support. If you care for your money, do not buy.

"New Version = Terrible"
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
none....has always been a very good program, but new 11.0.277 is awful
Cons
The newest Registry Mechanic is probably the worst ever made. I have been using for years, and when seen an update figured OH good. Well that was a mistake. Took twice to install in windows7, after the re-boot figured was something I did, then it started. It removed parts and pieces of programs I use everyday. Hard to find all the settings, lot slower than the the older version. interface is poor. Overall the worst product on the market if trying this version......Terrible to remove, left all kinds of trails.
Summary
Too bad had to give it a 1, the is being overrated, Tried it had major problems, caused me to re-install two programs (Office being one) because allowed it to auto fix. Had troubles getting out of system. Had me digging to go back to RM 10 far more stable. Advise to stay away from RM 11 till they fix some problems maybe in next update, But keep what you have that works do NOT bother with this one.

"Sadly, not as good as it used to be"
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Very comprehensive suite of registry and computer cleaning tools
Cons
The latest version became stuck on scrubbing my registry every night and the normal scheduling tools to turn this off became ineffective! This forced me to reboot every morning as the registry scrubbing could no longer be turned off. That kind of invasion into my operating system is an automatic deal breaker for me.
Summary
This used to be one of the best programs around. Unfortunately, it has gotten too aggressive and wants to literally take over your operating system. This entire program needs a new overhaul. They need to get back to the simple effective program they once had. Each year they kept adding more and more tools and capabilities and now it has a mind of its own. I'm searching again for a better alternative and hopefully a freeware one.

"You need to pay annually"
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Easy to use if you don't use all the optimal tweaks.
Cons
1. You will be given an online account which does little except to tie you into being changed annually; this software is a service for which you will have to pay every year.
2. Beware when you try to follow the impressive looking dial and optimize your registry to 100%, you will likely end up losing more than you bargained for. -
"20% DISCOUNT COUPON found today"

Pros
Excellent program, has automatic features. Does its job thoroughly and fast. After I used it just once, my computer started working really faster.
And I found a discount for this software here:

Nothing bad to say.

"Removes start menu icons when you use the Privacy Tool."
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Some of the Tools seem to work.
Cons
Contacted Customer Service in reference to icons that were removed from the Start Menu and received no answer.

"Did not work with GData Antivirus in the same machine."
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Overall, one of the best PC Repair, Optimization, and Maintenance software around.
Lots of good features, centered around the maintenance of the Registry.Cons
Did not work with my GData Antivirus software. It conflicts during boot time, and windows logon, causing significant slowdown, and errors to occur.
Depending on your System Hardware and Software configuration, Registry Mechanic may or may not be for you.Summary
I used Registry Mechanic before on my old Windows XP System, and if I wrote a review back then, I would have given it 5 Stars.
So, I am disappointed that it did not work in my Vista 64 System. So I give it a meager 2.5 Rating - it may or may not work for you. -
"Do not buy."
Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277
Pros
Nothing good to say about latest upgrade.
Cons
Do not buy Registry Mechanic. Have used it for several years. Latest upgrade went into my computer and removed all entries in System Restore and put the entries into Registry Mechanic. When I complained to PC Tools, they said they could not reverse it. Two supervisors told me there was nothing they could do. PC Tools refunded my subscription, but I received no apologies. Very poor customer service. I wrote to their office in California and received no response. How dare they change anything on my computer.
Summary
Do Not Buy. Poor customer service.
