Although not feature-rich, Registry Mechanic checks your registry for errors that can slow down and crash your computer. The utility can find a wide range of defects, including references to already uninstalled programs, missing help files and broken shortcuts, virtual devices, start-up programs, fonts, and configuration files. It also can automatically repair invalid entries at Windows start-up.
The Quick Scan has been abandoned in this version in favor of an exceedingly fast and comprehensive Deep Scan. The program also makes backups, so it's easy to restore a fix gone wrong. The left-nav-based interface is uncomplicated and easy to use, and fortunately there are some extra horses to support this former one-trick pony: other features include a defragger, a "registry compacter," and a system optimizer.
It's too bad, then, that the stringent restrictions on the trial version make it difficult to analyze the effectiveness of the program. The trialware allows for only five sections of the registry to be repaired, the compacter was similarly crippled, and the defrag and system optimization buttons had no effect. Given these handicaps, our recommendation of Registry Mechanic is also hamstrung.

Publisher's description
From PC Tools :Registry Mechanic is an advanced registry cleaner for Windows that allows you to safely scan, clean, and repair registry problems with a few simple mouse clicks. Problems with the Windows Registry are a common cause of Windows crashes and error messages. By using PC tune-up utilities such as registry cleaners regularly, your system will be more stable, your software will run quicker, and your operating system will boot faster. Registry problems can occur for many reasons, including references left behind after uninstallation; incorrect removal of software; missing or corrupt hardware drivers; or orphaned start-up programs. With a few easy steps, Registry Mechanic will scan your entire registry for any invalid entries and provide a list of the errors found. You then can choose to clean each item or automatically repair them all after making a backup without the need for a registry editor such as Regedit. PC Tools products are free of spyware and adware.

Version: Registry Mechanic 7
"Used to have it, still trying to charge me."
Pros: I thought it was a great product at the time....
Cons: .....Until I found out about other programs such as CCleaner, GlaryUtilities, AceUtilities, TuneUp Utilities, etc. I downloaded a few trials and this product doesn't do anything different than the others in terms of registry "cleaning and fixing." Other programs picked up about the same items or even more. I'm having trouble trusting this product, and the company. I was still being charged for it, have no idea why, finally got them off my back and now I feel so much more free not using PC Tools' products.

"I've never ran into a Registry Cleaner I could trust!"
Pros: This ones no different. Truth be told, "it sucks".
Cons: On top of a system damaging tool, "PC Tools" have become crooks in their "auto renew policy". Thats without the consent of the credit card holder.

Version: Registry Mechanic 7
Pros: It wasn't so hot in versions 4,5 or 6 so why would it be good now. Always caused me more harm then good.
Cons: Nothing good about it when compared to "WinASO Registry Optimizer" and they have no deceitful renewal practices. I know you have read it before but I sure as hell don't want my credit card charged without my consent, especially for something I haven't used in months.

Version: Registry Mechanic 7
Pros: I has tried many of registry cleaner tools, I think Registry Mechanic is good, it does do a nice job cleaning your registry and easy to use. Version 7 improves system optimizer feature.
But I think it is not the best. After I used it 4 months later, my friend recommended WinASO to me, so I decided to download and try it. On the first scan WinASO Registry Optimizer found 144 errors....I could hardly believe it! Thoroughness is truly the hallmark of this great product! Now, I have used these two softwares for more than 2 years. My computer runs well all along!

Version: Registry Mechanic 7
Pros: Fixes multiple registry problems...
Cons: You have to pay to fix the rest of the problems, and it sometimes messes up my computer when executed
