"Don't waste your money!!!"

November 11, 2014  |  By labailey53

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214

Pros

The software performs good, when it performs

Cons

I've purchased the software 2 times, have the invoices, and still can't register it so I'm uninstalling it and going to forget that I ever saw it. When I first purchased in 2010, there was NOT 1 THING that mentioned having to renew. But I did purchase it 2 times and still couldn't register so it's gone forever

Summary

Save your money, may not be able to register after purchase.

"Cleans more than your registy"

September 27, 2014  |  By cubecompmtdx

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214

Pros

I have used Registry Mechanic for years and have always found it to be a decent tool for optimizing your computer's performance. I've used versions 5 (in XP), and 9 (in Vista and 7)

Cons

With newer versions such as RM 11.1, RM runs in the background, auto-scheduling cleanups for more than your registry. Less than an hour after I upgraded from v9 to v11.1, I had noticed that it had popped up saying that it had finished "removing my privacy items"... in other words, it closed down ALL my browsers and wiped them of all the tabs that I had opened. I had ~20 tabs open in Chrome... now, I have 1 and it's the start page. It wiped out ALL the data from my last session of Chrome so I couldn't just go back and restore the previous session. It also did similar things to Firefox, which I had open with ~6 tabs, now gone. Maybe some people like to have this stuff cleaned out once in awhile, but don't have these "scanners running on schedules by default. I prefer the only "scheduled" scan on my computer to be my anti-virus scanner. Also, I've noticed that this version of RM fould a lot more registry error than v9. Now, system restore does not work and I cannot get it back on.

Summary

It seems like RM used to be great prior to it being owned by Symantec, the same company that owns Norton antivirus. Now I'm not surprised by how 11.1 does more than you want it to. Safe to say, I'm uninstalling 11.1 and going back to 9.

"Very good program with several key features"

August 26, 2014  |  By katherinegeorge

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214

Pros

Very good program with several key features such as:
Registry cleaning - cleans the registry and fix it, and get rid of old registry notes and files which is very good for a fast system.
Shred files - you can actually shred all files and not only delete them which makes them unavailable even for recovery programs, this way you can destroy files completely
clean hard drives - can help you clean all hard drives from junk files or not needed files to clear space and optimize system

Cons

sometimes does not clean all registry errors and need to restart computer in order for it to find again and clean everything

Summary

very good program with good features would advise people to use only this program for registry cleaning and optimizing.

"Portfolio No Longer provided by Symantec"

June 08, 2014  |  By Keith_C_A

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214

Pros

Was a great Program

Cons

No Longer in Symantecs Portfolio

Summary

The PC Tools utility portfolio was retired on December 4, 2013.
The current PC Tools Utility range consisting of File Recover, Performance Toolkit, Privacy Guardian, and Registry Mechanic was retired on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, and will no longer be sold or renewable from this date forward. Why did Symantec discontinue the PC Tools Utility Portfolio (PC Tools Performance Toolkit, PC Tools Registry Mechanic, PC Tools File Recover and PC Tools Privacy Guardian)?

Symantec has made the strategic decision to streamline our product range in order to provide fewer, more integrated solutions for our customers. Consequently, the decision was made to retire the PC Tools Performance Toolkit, PC Tools Registry Mechanic, PC Tools File Recover, and PC Tools Privacy Guardian products.

"Did not fix problems with my system and was re-billed."

November 26, 2012  |  By FGHM

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214

Pros

None, in my case.

Cons

I purchased Registry Mechanic from PC Tools online in 2011 without any online mention of automatic renewals. Without using the product I was subsequently billed in 2012 with an automatic renewal. The re-billing was without my consent or notification, and PC Tool refused to refund the money because the claim period had expired. When I spoke with PC Tool they had no interest in satisfying me as a customer and were adamant, as if they knew that credit card companies will not file a clam after 120 days. PC tools has since changed the renewal notifications and web page.

"Registry Mechanic Was A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing."

October 02, 2012  |  By Several9920

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277

Pros

Bleaching the hard drive free space was one of the only few features i loved about this software.

Cons

Like a lot of registry software, Registry Mechanic deletes too much.

Summary

I payed for Registry Mechanic and i was pleased with it at first, Then came the problems. I was the click happy type so i do take responsibility but, I trusted this software. I would scan and click fix on what ever it found. Then the error messages started up. I was deleting things that my computer needed to run properly. Important service pack files had been deleted, My system eventually slowed down to a crawl. Restore points didn't help at all, and my built in windows system restore feature know longer worked. It was just one problem after the next, My documents folder, Windows services folder, all corrupt. The last straw was when i decided to bleach the hard drive free space and at the half way point, I got a message from windows stating that i didn't have enough memory to complete the task system restart. After restart i got the dreaded blue screen of death. I then had to order recovery cd's from the Manufacturer because so many files were missing when i tried to perform my own system recovery hitting f10 on my keyboard. Its best to leave the registry alone, But as someone else stated below CCleaner registry cleaner is the safest.

"Used it for years, no trouble."

June 30, 2012  |  By Tom_SF

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277

Pros

Works as advertized but I let my subscription expire. Still works great.

Cons

Doesn't "over clean". It won't get rid of things your system needs. (Beware of CCleaner. It will delete your start-up sounds on XP).

Summary

Can't go wrong. I bought this originally in 2005. Works great.

"Will Not recommend"

May 25, 2012  |  By srnimani

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277

Pros

Clears most of the Issues.

Cons

I purchased this SW after seeing the initial results. I paid for 2 years and when I did not renew the second time, the SW stopped working. No valid reason when I contacted support. I will not recommend if you want to protect your money. Use a freeware like CCleaner Instead.. Works as well and free.

Summary

Pathetic customer support. If you care for your money, do not buy.

"New Version = Terrible"

May 16, 2012  |  By zebra148

 |  Version: Registry Mechanic 11.0.277

Pros

none....has always been a very good program, but new 11.0.277 is awful

Cons

The newest Registry Mechanic is probably the worst ever made. I have been using for years, and when seen an update figured OH good. Well that was a mistake. Took twice to install in windows7, after the re-boot figured was something I did, then it started. It removed parts and pieces of programs I use everyday. Hard to find all the settings, lot slower than the the older version. interface is poor. Overall the worst product on the market if trying this version......Terrible to remove, left all kinds of trails.

Summary

Too bad had to give it a 1, the is being overrated, Tried it had major problems, caused me to re-install two programs (Office being one) because allowed it to auto fix. Had troubles getting out of system. Had me digging to go back to RM 10 far more stable. Advise to stay away from RM 11 till they fix some problems maybe in next update, But keep what you have that works do NOT bother with this one.
