CNET Editors' review
This freeware application offers a wealth of recipe-management features, but the program's stability is a big issue. The Recipe Center's intuitive interface displays each recipe with ingredients, instructions, servings, and a picture, if one is available. We especially like the online function, which lets you browse Recipecenter.com and seamlessly import new recipes for free. Powerful searching makes it easy to find, for example, every recipe that calls for cheese, and you can quickly create a shopping list from any recipe or instantly resize recipe quantities based on number of servings. You'll also be able to preview and print recipes in various styles, including 3x5 and 4x6 card formats. Recipe Center offers a nice set of recipes that any cooking enthusiast would appreciate and it's offered free of charge, which makes the crashes we encountered all the more disappointing. Despite its nice set of features, the stability issues should lead most cooking enthusiasts to look elsewhere.Publisher's Description

"More than just "buggy" v. 6.0"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
After 15 minutes, very little.
Cons
Where to start. Resizing no of portions and never comes back to the original quantities. Try to cancel alteration but it still gets saves. Kept cutting off the first letter of one of the procedures. Way too much hassle.
Summary
Read reviews about version 5.x but decided to try the new v 6.0 anyway. Big waste ot time. Still the same (if not worse?). You'd be better of paying for something that works..

Cons

Summary
Need to update version.

"Decent Program"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
Very nice screen layout. I like having the recipes there on the screen for a quick find if you know what you're looking for. I also like that you can search online for a recipe.
Cons
You can only import one recipe at a time.
Summary
Good for the money.

"Good for the price"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
allows you to add your own recipes, creates shopping list
Cons
does not allow you to tab over when creating recipes to the next box. you have to use the arrow keys which is a bit funky. also when inputting quanties franctions have to be converted to decimals. It does not allow for "2 to 3" or "1/4"
Summary
inputting recipies is easy except for the two peculiarities mentioned in the cons. Not being able to tab adds to the input time. The ingredients box has auto complete which is often conveniont, e.g. type on and it auto complets onion, chopped.
list of key words is a bit cumbersome. you cant' just add your own e.g. vegan. You have to go into a drop down menu, select type of diet and then select vegan
BUT its free and is a nice way to always have your recipes handy. no more calling mom for the stuffing receipe at Thanksgiving. :) -
"Kept locking up my computer."
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
nothing could not use
Cons
Unable to use.
-
"Buggy as an Ant Farm!"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
Could be really nice software - especially for freeware - if it were not so buggy.
Cons
Software completely locked up TWICE before I could even enter one new recipe. I had to shut it down from the task manager and lost my work both times.
-
"good idea but difficult to make work"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
Basic recipe software, free
Cons
Freezes a lot, not very user friendly, lacked good instructions
Summary
I did not like it and ended up erasing it and replacing Recipe Center with Discover-a-Dish because
1) it comes preloaded with recipes which are very time consuming to take off. 2) I can't count how many times it froze while working with it. 3) It says that you can easily change ingredient amounts for different amount of eaters, but I couldn't figure it out nor find info on how to do so. 4) It doesn't come with good enough instructions. 5) For some reason, one of my recipes ingredients got copied into several recipes and erased the old ones which I find weird considering how hard it is to change recipes. 6) Very time consuming to modify or delete recipes - it will give you a silly amount of "Is this ok?" pop up windows and it will freeze in the process. -
"DONT DO IT"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
There was nothing.
Cons
Was not easy to download. Not easy to imput recipies. To many buttons to click and things to enter. I read the reviews and thought awesome easy to use program NOT!
Summary
I want a program that is like an index card. One i can copy and paste recipies into and have a no hassle time typing them in there. This program did non of that even though it claims to. Just not an easy program to use.

"MIght have been great if it would have worked"
Version: Recipe Center 5
Pros
None right now
Cons
Would not install properly
would not connect
Kept asking me to install A huge file download from microsoft that was probably not needed.Summary
I liked the concept and idea of this program but unfortunately I never could get this to install. It would ask me to install microsoft .net framework and I had to select yes or this would not even install at all. I was disappointed that I could not get this to work, especially after all the great reviews and even registering at the web site. I would love to say that installing this was a result of user error but I am very adept at computers and especially so in software and programs. The fault lies somewhere in this program. I would love to see them correct this bug so that I can actually try this out again sometime!
