    "Great Game, but major flaws"

by celtezon on August 13, 2007

Pros: Ok first off before I bash this great game let me tell you what's good about it: This game is really fun and is more skill based than blind luck or slightly higher level characters, which is really nice. Good range of abilities in characters and really nice graphics and audio. good selection of worlds and up to 16 players in an arena.

Cons: Ok here they come: I don't get why you can't customize your character's look at all. basically all of the archers are clones, the warrios are clones, and so on and so forth. I mean I guess it's nice for seeing at a glance who everyone is, but you would think we could change the color scheme at least, I mean come on! Unfortunatly, that isn't my major problem with this game. This game has massive amounts of characters that lag really bad so they are impossible to hit and it has loads of hackers that make the game really stupid if you get stuck in a room with them.

"Skill Based Combat? Give Me A Break"

by El Erico on September 10, 2007

Pros: Of all of the Massively Multiplayer Online games that are available (let alone free), Rakion stands out from the pack for one reason: it's a fighting game. Not your typical fighting game, like looking at your character from the side. Instead, it's a game where you pick a fantasy-based character and roam the stage looking for other fantasy-based characters to destroy.

In a sense, levels really don't matter, and spreading out your points to several stats is generally considered foolish. Most players often build on their particular character's strengths. For example, Mage's ranged attacks are some of the most versatile and powerful in the game, so it would make sense, of course, to pile stat points into that one particular stat to beef up your kill ratio.

Unless there's twenty levels between you and an opposing character, it's true, you really won't notice much of a difference. Especially since most players don't know how to manage their stats properly, and spend all of their gold on crap they don't need. Upgrading your equipment is absolutely crucial, because the equipment you buy ups your stats, as well, further beefing up your character and, in many cases, helping make up for their weaknesses. Plus, it makes your character look different. Kind of.

For a free game, the graphics are better than average, and the gameplay is undeniably fun.

Cons: Until you get to play up against people who really know what they're doing. In a sense, Rakion is like a big, unpredictable game of Chess, where all the rules are thrown out the window. Some characters are just (sorry, hardcore Rakion fans) better suited to kill other characters/perform certain tasks than others. In this case, Ninja are best suited to do everything. There's no reason to play any other character, unless you like dying.

If you can figure out just how to 'grab' opponents (I'll save you time and frustration: click and hold both mouse buttons when intimately close to another player) as a Ninja, you've pretty much dominated the entire game. During the lengthy, high damage attack animation, you're completely invincible to opponent attacks until the animation is completely over, and two grabs will kill even Blacksmith, the heartiest of all the characters.

In Golem games, Ninja are fast and even trained monkeys can get to the Golden Golem first and destroy it long before anything else can get there, then dash right on past opposing players and have their golem dead in seconds, provided the opposing team doesn't have a few people set on defense, in which case a minute at best.

High level, experienced Ninja players will have little trouble destroying anyone who isn't in Chaos mode, which generally applies to ninety nine percent of your playing time. With that in mind, Ninja is not for everyone: if you can't master their glitchy blocking attack that allows them to move EVEN FASTER than normal, and block ALL FRONTAL ATTACKS, you're probably better off not playing at all.

This game is worth playing for the experience of playing it for a few days, then it's best to walk right out the door and never look back.

"trojans in the update file for gameguard"

by xionos on July 26, 2007

Pros: good game...could be alot better but this isnt about the game this is a warning viruses come with the Gameguard files trojans specifically.

Cons: The trojans are named npgmup.des and npgmup.des.new DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT CONTAINS VIRUSES. I installed it last night and after i logged off and restarted my computer all access to the internet was cut off. I had to go into safemode and scan to find four trojans which i do not know if they are related to these two (my guess is yes but i am no expert...hence the word guess) and these two trojans located in the following file path C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Rakion\Bin\Gameguard
    pgmup.des and C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Rakion\Bin\Gameguard
    pgmup.des.new
