Publisher's description
From R-tools Technology :R-Drive Image creates disk image files for backup or duplication purposes. Disk image file contains exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition or logical disk and can be created with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS. These drive image files can then be stored in a variety of places, including various removable media. R-Drive Image is capable of restoring images on the original disks, on any other partitions or even on a hard drive's free space. R-Drive Image creates a special bootable diskette to restore system partition. To restore only certain files from a disk image, you can connect the image as a virtual disk and copy those files directly from the disk image using Windows Explorer or any other file utility. A free 15-day trial version allows you to verify all R-Drive Image capabilities except creation and restoration a disk image when R-Drive Image is launched from a bootable floppy disk created by the trial version.
Version 4.1 supports Windows Vista and 64-bit processors, Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), dynamic disks and BSD slices.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.1
Pros: * It doesn't creat a realy working boot disk (or disketes). So you can not restore an image file.
* Also, you can not restore an image file from within the windows. This means that the application is not working at all.
Cons: Best solution: Try the "Acronis True Image home". It works fine and secure.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.1
Pros: Best deal on 2003. Others charge a fortune for the same software the moment that O/S is mentioned.
Their support did get back to me when I had a problem. It was a Microsoft update that had interefered withthings and product upgrade fixed this.
It can create a linux based rescue disk and you canuse thi sto get in if your drive goes down completely.
I have reinstalled my server from backups made with this saving several hours work and without the expense of the pro versions of Acronis.
Cons: It isn't the market leader and will have some rough edges (success brings money brings reinvestment) but it is good enough.
I accept what other reviewers say. IMHO this is best for amall SME or home windows 2003 server systems and within that those that have redundant standard drives and backups. I tend to use this for the o/s drive only and Server 2003 backup for the data directories which are on a separate disk. . . . It's good, it's cheap but its a bit more messing about, but isn't that small business all over?
I highly recommend this for W2K3 SME as long as you get the rest of your IT strategy straight. Can save 100's.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.1
"works fine for your personal files, never trust it for your system"
Pros: fast, intuitive, promising, very efficient use of space in backup media
Cons: For a time I thought this did not work because of the different NTFS protocol of the win2k, but XP disabused me of my misconception. I tried it in all possible ways, within and out of windows, booting its own disk; with whole disk and partition copy. IT NEVER WORKED, (even when the programme had run a test of the backup)! I wish I had bought acronis, but it is never too late.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.1
"Affordable Win2003 image software"
Pros: I work as a sys admin for an acadmic institution. We don't have a big IT budget. Most products to create images on servers costs hundreds of dollars. R-Drive Image may not be as polished as its competitors but is affordable. I had a win2003 system drive that I needed to put into a RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration. The drive was 149GB I was able to take an image of the drive using r-drive. The problem that I encountered was that when the same drive was configured in a raid mirror it formated with a slightly smaller size. Due to the smaller size I could not restore the image to the same size drive in a RAID config. The solution was to restore the OS drive from the image back to a non-raid format of the 149GB drive, then use a partition program to shrink the size of the partition then take another image of the smaller partition. Then build the RAID-1 array. I was now able to restore the image of the smaller partitioned system drive to the RAID drive. My experience contradicts the poster that says that the product does not work for RAID. A side note: partition software for win2003 is also price elevated. EASEUS $30 product worked fine to reduce the partition. Maybe if more people supported these smaller companies that keep their prices reasonable other vendors may lower their prices. Support was helpful, returned phone call and email.
Cons: Support was helpful, however at times it was difficult to understand the english w/ russian accent.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.1
Pros: At first it seemed to work ok but as time went on
Cons: 180 day support. Will not work with raid drives. There support is very poor they don't return phone messages or emails. The only way I got a responce was with a fax. No mater what the problem is they send the ID.
