Publisher's description
From R-tools Technology :R-Drive Image creates disk-image files for backup or duplication purposes. A disk-image file contains an exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition, or logical disk and can be created with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS. These files then can be stored in a variety of places, including removable media. R-Drive Image is capable of restoring those images on the original disks, on any other partition, or even on a hard drive's free space. The program creates a special bootable diskette for restoring a system partition. To restore only certain files from a disk image, you can connect the image as a virtual disk and copy those files directly from the disk image using Windows Explorer or any other file utility. The program can be restarted in the pseudo-graphic mode directly from Windows to restore data to the system and other locked partitions. Version 3 features: Disk Image scheduler; network support; Action Report; new devices support; software interface improvements.

Version: R-Drive Image 3
"Cheaper than Acronis for Windows 2003 Server"
Pros: - Everyone else's software refuses to work on windows 2003 unless you pay some exhorbitant corporate rate. This disk imager has a much cheaper licence a lot more suitable for home or SOHO use.
- Squeezes images nice and small
- Easy to use
- Licensed copy definitely works
- It's pretty fast
- It can create a Linux based rescue disk which gets you out of chicken and egg if your O/S drive fails and needs a restore. I.e. no need to reinstall the O/S just to get to the image installer (as long as you do actually take the precaution of creating that rescue disk)
Cons: - Verifies only as a separate process which is not so good for automated backups
- Worked fine until recently. Now it crashes my system when I try to create am image so has effectively become useless. Issue reported to tech. support
I've given it three stars as it's prob the best disk imager you can get for reasonable money running w2003 at home - even if it did screw up on me.
