"It's okay but not as good as VLC"

    July 06, 2014   |   By tomysshadow

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.5

    Pros

Supports lots of formats otherwise unknown
    Good MIDI player
    Love the VR option
Love the ability to join/merge videos (on the free version!)

    Cons

For a name like QuickTime it sure starts up slow
Many formats it also doesn't support
newest version not compatible with older PC games
mainly is for Mac, not PC
MOV files take up lots of space

    Summary

It's okay for MOV files but anything else you are better off with VLC or MPC-HC.

    ""security update" my @(r)se"

    November 11, 2013   |   By Newrone

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.4

    Pros

Cannot find "10 characters" of pros.

    Cons

I couldn't even download it for Win 8.

"security update" has nothing to do with "security", unless you're talking about NSA "security". The Quicktime download interface - on whatever platform - is now just a data-mining engine. Giving you a free video player earns them nothing. Selling your income, holiday/wedding dates, car model & health status data - THAT is $$$ for marketeers. Forget it. There are much better video players built for original purpose.

    "Worst Media Player Ever"

    October 04, 2013   |   By cairobaby

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.4

    Pros

    Nothing good about it.

    Cons

Inconvenient setting, chunky, incapable of loading videos properly and promptly. The playing bar freezes every now and then. It is just the WORST. I have never encountered anything like this before (well, maybe some of Real Player's playing). I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless something is to be done about it - please make it more user friendly.

    "0 rating for Quick Time"

    July 09, 2013   |   By johnmtitus

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.4

    Pros

There are no Pros for this release.

    Cons

After I upgrade to QuickTime 7.7.4, all webpages running QuickTime stopped playing on all web browsers. If you are running Windows 7, forget it. I have two Windows 7 Pro machines and QT does not work. This is a total disaster for Apple.

    Summary

Hopefully they will fix this soon.

"Quicktime 7.7.4 Update Glitches on Windows XP and Win 7"

    June 01, 2013   |   By binarystar

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.4

    Pros

Quicktime worked fine on my old Windows XP Professional SP2 computer and on my Windows 7 laptop, but now it is nearly useless.

    Cons

Apple has broken a fine piece of software. The "security updates" make Quicktime glitchy on Windows XP and Windows 7.

    Summary

I used it primarily for websites where movies and music were specifically set up to play in Quicktime -- mostly movies and older music files recorded on as MIDI files on various web pages.

Prior to this 'security upgrade' Quicktime worked fine. Now there are many pages where it no longer works at all -- I go to them and the music is silent, some completely harmless pages suddenly freeze and jam my computers, etc.

I've been forced to uninstall Quicktime for Windows and iTunes, and listen to this music through Windows Media Player or Real Player. Both of the other players make you download the music MIDI files, as if they were PDF files, and then you have to click "Open" and then Windows Media Player or Real Player comes up, and then you have to click "play." Really annoying!

I tried the VLC Player, but it no longer supports MIDI files.

    Updated on Jun 1, 2013

I recognize that older MIDI music file formats are -- well -- older -- but they are not 'security risks.' There are very large collections of music still recorded in that format.

    Updated on Jun 1, 2013

Another side effect of the Quicktime 7.7.4 'security update' -- the federal government installed it, and now display animations of daily air pollution index maps on the EPA's website have stopped appearing on both of my computers. I bet they are not appearing on many other peoples' computers as well.

    "Corporations must simply be executed"

    August 01, 2012   |   By Aarby

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.3

    Pros

The Apples of the world taught us that darkness doesn't work

    Cons

    Abusive. Abusive. Proprietary crap.

    Summary

I'm still trying to figure out how to download from the site that CNET 'helpfully' links to. CNET is not at fault. Apple is not at fault. I have no use for either. Now cough up the stuff!

"Not sure what this is supposed to do..."

    April 30, 2012   |   By jeffdee107

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.1

    Pros

    No idea...

    Cons

Quicktime player letters/images appear "fuzzy", as if they are meant to be viewed on an Iphone or small screen.

    Summary

Overall, this is terrible. I was hoping for something that would allow me to convert files easily so I can view and edit them (imovie) on the ipad. Secondarily, I was looking for software that I could use to make, edit, etc, movies. I'm not sure what I got for $30, honestly! As far as I'm concerned, this was very counter-apple, as it wasn't very easy to use, made little sense (zero intuitiveness) and generally just makes me frustrated. At this point, I STILL cant convernt or upload video to my ipad from a third party source (HD Camcorder).

"QT 7.7.1 does not work with Win. XP Pro"

    March 30, 2012   |   By gklowe

    Version: Apple QuickTime 7.7.1

    Pros

DOES NOT WORK ON WINDOWS XP PRO

    Cons

All kinds of problems with QT Unavailable was not found error #1307900

    Summary

Every time I have tried to install QuickTime it gives me me the above error and keeps repeating until it uses up my memory. I have installed over a dozen times and each time I have to un-install it. Plus, Apple does not support this or iTunes when you have a problem, especially if you are running Windows.
